Quick, and probably uninformed question

Alright Gents, please don't destroy the newb.

I've been into blades for a while now, but I really don't know a whole lot about Busse or Busse-kins.

I just have two question that I'm hoping to maybe be able to get an answer to......

First off, I'd like to get one of the Busse/Kin short swords. I know there is the AK-47, the Rodent Waki, Rodent Rucki ( not really a sword, I guess, but would still like one ), and there are probably more. Why is it, though, that Swamp Rat has the Rucki on sale right now for $289.00 ( plus extras for different handle scales ) and yet people are selling them on many different forums for anywhere between $450-$650? Is there a reason that older ones are more desirable? Where would be the best place to find an AK-47 or Waki?

Secondly, I've long had an interest in getting a large chopper Busse for a heavy duty outdoor knife, assuming I would actually able to convince myself to use it. I initially wanted a Battle Mistress, but I've been seeing alot of BWM's around lately. Is there a reason why some folks prefer one over the other, and why is there such a huge variation in pricing.

Thanks for any help you can offer to someone who is definitely not knowledgeable about the subject.

Have a good one!

Welcome to the madness bro! A very, very quick "nutshell" answer, the newer Ruckis were supposedly differentially heat treated, thus making them more valuable (google differential heat treating). You are much better off just buying one directly from the Swamp! The best place to find a WAKI or AK-47 is HERE, in the WANT TO BUY forum; good luck. And as for Battle Mistresses, older usually means more expensive. The newest, and arguably the most usable Mistress, was the Bushwacker Battle Mistress. A good buddy of mine has one up for sale right now for a couple hundred WITH a sheath, which is a STEAL imho. There is nothing the Bushwacker can't do that the FFBM can do, except for surviving 9 rounds of Noss's abuse (google FFBM destruction test)! If you have any more specific questions, feel free to shoot me an email/PM. I love talking cutlery  Again, welcome to the forum.

Mistresses and AKs. My kind of Thread!

For a chopper, you can

1 wait for the NMSHBM or NMFSH
2 Register at the yard and get in on the MOAD/FDM
3 Order a 911 or Rodent 9 now
4 Get anything you want on the secondary market, but with varying degrees of Markup
5 all of the above

Higher numbers being increasingly quicker

with a wait time of 2 to 5 months to get a custom shop AK47, the price of a ready to ship AK on the secondary market is justifiably higher... you're paying for the convenience of not having to suffer through a horribly painful wait.

The same applies to all out of production blades. I have an AK, a Gladius, and a Muk that should be ready soon. I payed much less for them than you'd pay if you got them on the exchange, and if i decide to sell one, it'll be marked up accordingly.

I consider it payment for my pain and suffering during the wait

short swords:
Busse - AK, Ruck, Gladius
SwampRat - Waki, Rucki
Scrapyard - Scrapizashi(skizzy)

Some of the swamprats released recently are variants mad!e in really small numbers and that might be what you are seeing the higher prices on.

I have a Swamp Rat Waki and it is an amazing blade and I think you can get them relatively cheap still. I have learned the hard way that if you are eyeballing a Busse or any of the kin you had best jump on it while its still available to you on the store, you will be kicking yourself in the ass if you don't.

Thanks for the info, guys.

Actually, SwampRat has been down for a few days, but I think as soon as it comes back up, I'm going to start my Busse/Kin collection with a Rucki.

Next up will be my Battle Mistress / BushWacker Mistress

Then we'll go from there. I REALLY do want at least one of the full size swords ( AK, Waki, Scrapizashi ) My biggest problem with all of these is cash. I buy a good number of knives, but generally few that are $400+. So, when it comes to buying a more expensive blade, I can generally afford about $250-$300 out of each paycheck ( every 2 weeks ), so I usually have to ask sellers if they will take 2 or 3 payments. Sure, I could save up and buy, but how can you save when there are so many great knives ( and razors, and guns, and, well nvm ) out there to buy.

Thanks again for the info and the kind welcome.I'll let you know when I've actually joined the club ( cult? )

ETA: what is the Yard ( MOAD, FDM )?

the Yard is the forum at scrapyardknives.com

The MOAD/FDM is a release coming out soon that is only available to forum members, and it looks like it is going to be a 13" beast of a blade with Res-c handles.

The specs haven't been released, but Jerry said Dan was making something special for us at an even better than usual price.

just thought of something else on the sword prices. A basic kydex or leather sheath is going to be $80+ and fancy leather could cost several times that much.

Whether or not it has a sheath and what kind can make a huge difference in the price.

No one mentioned that part of the reason that the Bush Wacker Mistress sells for les than the Battle Mistress is that it's thinner . Being .187" thick on the standard model and .220" on th LE model , compaired to the Battle Mistress being .250" to .320" thick bladestock . More INFI more money , stronger blade , better chopper .

its a custom shop AK from the Shamrucko Ganzaaa. You could get one from Garth in the custom shop, or they show up at shows and ganzaas sometimes. You could get exactly your choice of scale material going through Garth though, but it might be a long wait.

The 4th picture down that has the shotgun in it...That is an AK and below that is what is known as a "Ruck"
Both of those are from Busse Combat and are made from INFI.
