Next is a shot of Mike Quesenberry's Knives. He was too shy to get in the shot:rolleyes: Mike won Best Handforged and Best Fighter. His knives are just plain incredible.

Over All it was a pretty good show. Dave did a good job putting things together once again. It was great meeting with old friends and meeting many new ones.

Take care all and have a safe trip home

Thanks very much for the report Ray - and congrats to the award winners. Unless I'm reading it wrong, though, you have both John and Mike winning Best Bowie.

Roger

Oops, Chuck, not Ray. :o

Roger

Roger, Since they spelled my last name with an "S" on the end its OK if you call Chuck, Ray...... We both answer to either. I'd brought my camera but it never made it out of my bag.

Chuck Ray, I'd made it home by 9:30pm. 420 miles in 7 hours and that includes stopping to have a sit down dinner in La Grand. There must have been a tailwind. :D

It was a great Show, I was able to drag the wife away from a busy schedule and meet some amazing makers. The work on display was nothing short of amazing!

I believe "Best New Maker" and "Best Art Knife" went to Todd Miller.

Some real fine looking knives there! Congrats to all the award winners , , , and to the lucky collectors there to see all those fine knives.

Kaye and I took our grand daughter Kloe and we had a good time. The girls went shopping while I talked to anybody that would listen. The "Port Royal" cut-n-shoot was well recieved and brought in the "Traveling Trophy Cup" that will be taken back next year for the next Best of Show maker. Also get free table rent and 1/2 off on all photos taken by BladeGallery at the show. It was an honor to recieve the cup along with the Best Folder award.

One of the fun things about the Boise Show is we got to cut stuff. They have a cutting challenge for makers that want to participate. Its easy enough if you have a sharp knife. Chris Reeves was there and sharpened knives for anybody all weekend for free and he let me touch mine up.

There was also an on-going weekend class on knife throwing. The attendees had a blast throwing till their arms hurt. Some even stuck in the logs.

The cutting challenge is to cut an old dried out sisal rope on the table 3 times, sharpen a hard wood dowell, cut 3 slices from 10 oz leather, cut a big circle from cardboard, stab it into a chunk of firewood and wriggle it back out and finally peel and quarter an apple. There was a metal sign for all participants and everybody passed. It was easiest if the knife was thin and sharp. Bill Burke had a million dollar forged chef knife of 52100 and showed extreme finesse with it. He cut the rope in the air while the rest of us used the table. Next year it may (hopefully) be more a challenge.

Heres some really bad pics I found on my camera:

Thanks for the pictures and review. I'd sure like to make that show, perhaps next year...

Ray,

We made it home to my house in 7 hours also and we were fighting a headwind. At least we have a good reference point for next year eh?

If anyone else has pictures to share please post them.

Sorry I did not remember Todd Miller's name. I thought they were all easy enough so I did not write it down. His knives were great and had a wonderful artistic flair. Great Job

Thanks for the mention. I thought I would post a picture of me with the knives and plaques as well as a group shot of all the winners (I hope) My wife took a bunch of pictures and I am sending them to David Jacobson and he said he would post them on the show website, but first I have to throw away a bunch of stuff to make room on my hard drive. It was my first show and I want to thank everybody for being so welcoming and willing to share their knowledge. We just got home a couple hours ago and I am pretty fried. It turned out that while I was gone today there was a lockdown at the school I teach at. Apparently some students brought a machete and meat cleaver and threatened some other students. This is in a small rural school, so we aren't used to this sort of thing, so then we had dinner with a fellow teacher who needed to vent.

Thanks for the pictures guys. I forgot to even take my camera out.

It was good to see friends and meet some new faces. I had a good show and will back next year for sure. It was a lot of fun.

I Pulled some photos off my camera, not the greatest but thought I would share. John and Mike were not really interested in being in the photos but were gracious enough to do it.

Mike Quesenberry "Best Fighter" and "Best Hand Forged"

I wanted to thank everyone that took the time to chat with us, I am hoping to have a table at next years show.

I had a really good time at the show catching up with friends and getting to know others better. I got to spend quite a bit of time with Chuck Richards and my roommate Ray Richard. I thoroughly enjoyed the evenings hanging out in our room talking about knife stuff and learning a bunch.

I scored some great Koa and ironwood from Mark at Burl Source and three amazing pieces of fossil walrus ivory form Brett Mathews at Inherit Knife and Trade.
