Fellas,
I've just about got flat grinding down. It's not that hard really. Except for two things I need to work on:

1. My distal taper

2. Blending the top of the plunge line in.

With practice, I will easily be able to taper my blades perfectly, so no problem there.

My problem is what to do with the TOP of the plunge line, where it gets up there close to (or right AT) the spine???
When I am finished grinding the bevel, I have this plunge line that goes straight up to the spine, and I'm trying to figure out how you guys "blend" it in?????
I know that you can lay the blade flat and grind a FLAT area back over from the handle area, to keep the plunge from reaching the spine, but what if I want my flat grind to go all the way up to the spine of the knife????
How do I "blend" my plunge line in????
Any help would be really appreciated fellas.....

Use 220 grit on a flat sanding block to bring the grind up to the back of the blade. then go to your finer grits and finish.

Doing this on the machine is, for me, a matter of pressure. For a more rounded corner, lighter pressure and the reverse for a sharper corner. You think this is hard, try making them the same on both sides! :D This is the bane of all grinding but for what it's worth this seems much easier to me than those beautiful sweeping curved plunge lines like Bruce Bump does... If I can ever learn to do that I'm going to dance in public.

Dave - Dont be modest! From what I hear your the man on the grinder buddy!

I too have problems blending the top of the spine in. I think the key is sharp fine grit belts. Dont try to blend it in with anything under 220 grit. Also you can try spray glueing a soft leather or graphite strip on the platen. That seems to help me. Light pressure also.
