Here is a quick holster I made for my
Young fella. It's supposed to go with chaps we made him for a western theme birthday party.

Momma don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys.................................

My son Logan at 6 or 7. We're on a pack trip in the Sierra Nevada and he's holding one of the pack horses while we load it. He'd ben riding on his own by the time he was 2. The leggings he's wearing I made for him when he was 2. They were full length batwing chaps. As he grew I cut fringe on the bottom and sides and they became chinks.

Went to cowboyin' right out of highschool in the desert country of southeast Oregon. Couple years later he's the cowboss. Those Horsewright leggings he's wearing have seen some us

At a branding on The Rancheria ranch here locally about two years ago. He's riding Lady. A friend of mine sold Logan Lady for a bottle of Pendleton whiskey and one $. My friend said that Lady was more horse than he was cowboy but he was pretty sure Logan was more cowboy than she was horse. Yep.

Grumpy thats a cool holster for your little guy. Did ya sew it? I like how you continued the stiching groove around the throat and the bottom of the holster to become a crease line. Its fun making stuff for those little guys to use and play with. I've made several bowies, always challenging for me, ya have to keep us advised on how it goes.

Very cool Dave , i always wanted to love that kind of life style. I miss our old quarter horses.

I stitched the holster with the same
Old bees wax and thread I always use. It's been good
To me so far. I keep having the hardest of times with plunge lines. It's proven to be my biggest challenge so far.

It still needs a lot
Of work and squaring up before I send it for Heat treat. To be honest with you I don't know if I'm a big fan of using a Bowie knife. I normally like a smaller knife 3.5-5" blade.

I'm more excited to finish it so I get to make a sheath for it haha.

The ones I've made have been more presentation type pieces or for guys into the single action shooting game. Done a lot of ivory as well as ironwood handles and damascus blades on most of them too. Are you using a file guide while grinding your plunges? I do the clip point after ht btw.
