Hi all. Just joined and writing from New Zealand.

Always had an interest in knives and all my collection get used - I'm a keen hunter and always busy on projects. Feel naked without a knife in my pocket.

Current favourites are the Cold Steel Rajah III which is solid enough for serious outdoor use, also great for skinning smaller game. Also seem to find myself lugging along a Kizlyar Phoenix with a reground 30 degree edge - takes care of anything the Raj can't - including close-range goats!

I joined up today for a couple of reasons. Firstly, my all time favourite EDC knife is broken - it's a Kershaw Talon II - and I wanted to get some wisdom on how to fix it. The torsion bar is split. Kershaw won't reply to my emails - I guess because it is a discontinued model (so much for the limited lifetime warranty). I would dearly love to fix it, or buy a replacement Talon. Have tried finding them the world over, but they are all gone. Blast.

Secondly, I am thinking that I would like to add an Al Mar Sere 2000 or the Mini version to my collection - to replace the Talon potentially, but also to do some of the work out hunting. I am really keen to learn more about how the likes Volloton modify these knives so that I could adapt one myself to 'assisted' rather than automatic opening. Very interested to hear opinions on these knives from those who use them for EDC.

Anyhow, tip my hat to y'all.

Try calling them directly, virtually all of the major makers CS departments are a bit slow on the e-mail more often than not.

WELCOME!

There's more than a few Kiwi's running around here. ;)

Emailing CS usually doesn't get a quick response, regardless of brand. Calling is best. Once a knife is 'discontinued', getting parts from Kershaw is difficult, if not impossible. Usually you have to send it in and cross your fingers.

For a replacement, the ZT0750 Talon is still available but it's more like the Kershaw 1420 Talon than your 1425 Talon II - http://kershawguy.com/products-page/zero-tolerance/zt0750/

Thanks for the welcomes and the advice. Just called KAI in Oregon and the chap was seriously helpful. He went out back and located the parts I need and is dispatching them today. Lesson learned - I will call direct in the future. Cheers everyone.
