Hello BladeForums,

I'm a fairly new member and after reading many, many posts I've decided to finely post. A little about me: I've always carried a knife and have never known anything about them except how to use them. I farm and use my blades heavily for the most part (I keep a couple nice for when I take the wife out). Never owned a custom or high-end production knife, but recently I'm finding myself being sucked into the knife world.

I currently carry Case, Spyderco, Kershaw, and Boker folders and I use multi-tools on a daily bases. My question for y'all is if it is mistake to buy a higher end production knife (to me that's a ZT 0561 or something like that) if I plan to use it on a semi-regular basis as opposed to keep it mint? I really like the feel and look of Striders, Hinderers, ZT's, and the like, but it's an investment for me. They have to work hard, no free rides.

I'm new to this, not an idiot, I'd appreciate any questions or input. Thanks and it's nice to meet y'all.

Keepfarmn

Knives are tools, it doesn't really matter if it is a $650 custom or a $25 Kershaw. If you don't intend to resell it, high end knives *can* offer much better performance than lower end knives. Plus, it is oddly satisfying to use the snot out of a Chris Reeve or Strider.

ZT's and Striders are very heavy use knives. Both are beefy, have great warranties, can't go wrong with either. I have a ZT0350TS and a Strider SnG. Both have handled everything I've thrown at them. The Strider was an investment to me as well, but am extremely happy with it. I don't believe in safe queens, I either use it or sell it. Trust me, the ZT's and Striders a work horses. Can't say much about Hinderer, don't own one.

The only mistake would be to buy a knife like a ZT or Strider and NOT use the hell out of it! Those are some heavy duty knives, and as such, you should feel free to beat on 'em! If you experience any trouble, well that's what warranty is for.

Not a mistake choosing and using the ZT. I honestly prefer slip joints and carry a Vic SAK and GEC #42. But I have been eyeing up some of the Hinderer designs that ZT carries.

Thanks for the info y'all!

I'm glad to hear these knives are workhorses and not only lookers.
