Hey fellas,

Just wanted to drop you guys a quick line. I've been lurking and reading these forums for a couple years. I have learned so much, and made knives into something I thought was really cool, into something that I really understand.

A little about me: I'm 28, live in Albany, NY (halfway between NYC and Canada), I do Industrial Refrigeration service for a major manufacturer, mostly interested in kitchen and high use cutlery.

I ordered some 1084 from Aldo today, and I have some nice Black Locust wood from my Father's house. I'm going to come up with my exact design for a medium-heavy utility/EDC type blade. I'll post it up when I come up with the final design.

Welcome aboard. You're committed now and I look forward to what you come up with. You've been lurking longer than I have been around, but I have life experience on you so I don't mind starting the welcoming committee.

WELCOME!!!! the sickness has taken another victim ;););)
As far as kitchen knives, don't use 1084. the stuff rusts if you look at when your hands are wet.

Welcome Danny! That is some serious lurkin' time there buddy!:D Glad to hear you're giving it a shot. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Have fun!

Welcome!

I think you will really like the 1084, it is great steel.

Welcome to the nuthouse :) Enjoy your bank account for the next few days...that is all the longer it will last :D

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I'll post up my design for the first knife in the next day or so. It will be pretty rudimentary.

Does anyone know any bladesmiths in Upstate, NY - Western, MA - Southern, VT that might be interested in having someone over to show off their shop and trade a little wisdom?
