I just had to have it. I've used a Spyderco Centofante IV at work for quite awhile now and I really like the wharncliffe blade on that sucker. It's just excellent for cutting cardboard, packaging and whatnot. So when I saw that my favorite knife was available with a wharncliffe style blade I just knew it was meant to be.
So I forked out the cash and pulled the trigger. Got if from knifeart.com and them boys are always pleasant to deal with. Swift delivery and no fuss.
The knife is just friggin awesome in every way. Of course I expected no less but it's still so very satisfying to see the craftsmanship of CR knives up close. Locks up tight as ever and fit and finish is beyond great. No surprise there. If you own a Sebenza you know, if not, buy one and don't look back.
The interesting thing though is the blade. Hell, that small belly they've put on the wharnie makes it a pocket lightsaber! I've been carrying mine for a couple weeks now and I still haven't found any task this knife doesn't excel at. It slices even better than my "standard issue" Sebbie. Normally a wharncliffe isn't ideal when working on a cutting board, (i.e cutting rope or other tubular objects) due to the tip of the blade doing the actual cutting in a pull cut. On the Insingo though, the light swell of the belly makes all the difference, allowing the blade to "bite" into the material while at the same time maintaining the super precision cuts of the tip when working freehand. Genius design, really.
What else is there to say? I think this i still a knifeart exclusive piece but it should absolutely go into regular production if you ask me. So far I have nothing bad to say about this knife. Sure, I haven't dressed any game with it yet (I don't hunt that much these days) and I figure a drop point style blade still wins out at skinning but as an EDC knife the Insingo is hard to beat in my book.
I got the large one since I prefer that size but I'm sure the small one is just as excellent. Only thing I'm not happy with is that I didn't have the financing earlier when the limited edition was out but hey, you can't get 'em all!
Hm, I realize this wasn't much of a review at all. At first I planned to go more into detail but then I realized most things about this knife have been said and repeated twice already so I just sorta gave you my input on it. If you have any questions though, feel free to ask away!
