Hi ..

Just a quick look at a folding ceramic kitchen knife from ACE.

Spec (from measurement and approximation no official data anywhere):

Open Length: 18cm

Blade Length: 8cm
Cutting Edge: 7 3/4 cm
Blade Thickness:1mm (approximation, I don't have caliper)

Lock: None (a different kind of slipjoint)

Bought this as a novelty to try out how a ceramic knife performs, plus it's a folder, easy to store away. It's available as ACE's Kris kitchen utensils and cost only about 7$.

Initial sharpness: hair scraping (can scrape some hair from my arm, but not shaving smooth)
Used it several times to slice pizza (on the pizza box), opening up coffee/tea aluminium package, nothing heavy.

I found the grip to be comfortable, the tab that function as blade stop also works for one hand opening (similar to thumbstud), and the mechanism to hold the knife open/close is the handle slab has notch/milled to accept a protrution at the tang (both open and close). When half open, the handle slab is wedged by the tab at the tang, to spread open (see the half open photo) and this flexing force is what retain the blade open/close (compare to the full opened photo)

So far, it is able to hold the blade open/close properly (quite strong), stronger than a lock back but less stiff than SAK's main blade backspring. The blade will not open without a strong push (shaking it only will not do).

It'll be mostly doing kitchen duties at home, and if any significant update / experience, I'll update this thread. I don't expect anything significant, the edge being used lightly doesn't show any sign of wear and looking at a long service life.

Interesting.... "Ace is the Place".... going to grab one here shortly and I'll throw some pictures up.

I'll end up stress testing it to failure so you don't have to, Chris :)

($7 still buys a couple gallons of gas..... or a few lunches that I could skip)

Well, thank you! Image of a snapped blade always makes me cringe ;)

Add a bit info, the ceramic being this thin, it's translucent. Very hard to get on photo though.

That looks interesting Chris. I'm seeing similar ones on ebay for around $6 with free shipping to me. Might be interesting to play around with. :)

Chuck, searched on bay, none of them at the 6$ price has the thumb 'stud' cum blade stopper .

My mistake Chris. I thought this one was similar.

I remember getting one from a 98 cent store close to where I live except with a steel blade.
This was when I had little to no knowledge of knives, I even superglued sandpaper to the blade so I could open it one handed.
The edge was unbelievably durable as I smashed it into bricks and a sharpening stone and the edge never chipped or deformed.
The label on the blade called it a fruit knife which I tried to use it as but it did not cut very well at all.

That knife is not available at my Ace Hardware Store here in Oregon, USA. And it cannot be ordered by my store either. No joy here. I'll beat the bushes/net...

Update, after a world wide search. These look like the same knife to my eyes (manufacturer's site says 5 colors):

2nd update: The mfg is probably out of business. I get no response from multiple inquiries and dates on their site stop over a year ago... I wonder if OP has re-branded clearance item. Or, company has changed name or been bot. I've found a new name and same knives (green & black only) so inquiries sent to this one.

What's sure is that local company that runs ACE got this OEM's ...

Based on the debacle on Sanrenmu, Enlan, etc., I tend to think it's same blade but different handle, with many small mfg. making it ... But not being there and having all the facts, can't be sure.

Made by Hite is what I come up with. The knife is perfectly sterile (no ID anywhere on the blade or on the handle). Great size, cam-like stay-open pivot action. One hander open/close. Modern adjustable star-drive pivot. Weighs 1.29 ounces, jaw drops. Great bargain discovery.
