Quick poll, bail on custom scout knife

How important is a bail on a handmade scout knife?

  • A handmade scout knife MUST have a bail to be considered a scout knife!

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • No bail as it just gets in the way of closing the master and I would not use the bail anyways!

I have been thinking about doing a scout knife down the road and wanted to get a bit of feedback if I could.

Please feel free to vote regardless if you would or would not ever consider a handmade scout knife.

I am after feedback on the bail. The poll pretty much sums up what I am after.

Thanks in advance for your time!

Ken

Just like lanyard holes- outdoor specific knives should have a way to attach some sort of lanyard. And my Scout knife had one.

Yep bail it, a custom scout knife is something I'd love to see.

Got to have a bail on a Scout.

And, I always look forward to seeing your fine creations!

Best,
Anthony

I say go with the bail. Because, just because..

Bail it since the bail goes with the pattern.

I have an A.G. Russell Premium Scout that has the bail, and that Scout pattern would look incomplete to me without a bail. Besides aesthetics, I use the bail so I don't lose the knife on a campout.

Bails are cool. A camper needs the bail unless it was a fancy city slicker camper that didn't really go camping.

I think you could do more of a custom bail since it's a custom scout...doesn't necessarily have to be round for instance. Some of Ron Lake's knives come to mind.....

But I'm sure you could add your own twist to it....

I think there is room for serious creativity on the part of an artist of Ken's caliber, when making a bail. And no, "bailout" is not the correct term here.:)

cnas has a point - a good one. Doesn't Sawby do a bail thru the end of the spring or something?

Mike

If you don't know how to use a knife with a bail stick with a SAK. A bail is a welcome complication on a knife such as a Scout knife.

Yep...here is an example of one of Scott's. I once had a knife similar to this and his bails are fixed and don't swivel. I liked it and used it in the woods

I'm a PLAIN city slicker, but I still need a bail!:D
And I do go camping - just not as much as I'd like to!

Those custom bails pictured above are O.K, but I like a traditional old time bail.
This Schrade Girl Scout has a nice bail, as does the D-E junior scout (by Empire) at the top of the second picture.

Gotta have a bail.... I can't wait to see pics of the Scout when its done, even if it doesn't have a bail :D

Bail it, because it's traditional to the pattern and....:p I want to see you do it.
