Quick Q about my new RC-4 CP

I just got my nice new RC-4 CP. I was saddened that there was no skull on that model so I got a flint as well with the skull to satisfy that particular need. I decided to go shoot some sparks off the back deck and see if I could make a fire. I succeeded. But in figuring out the best way to get a spark off the knife, I put a few pretty deep scratches on the face of the blade. One little part looks like I damn near went all the way through the black coating on the blade. I suppose this sort of thing was bound to happen.

At any rate, Do I now need to worry about rust in this spot. Also, if I might want to use this blade for cutting food, is there a particular type of oil I should put on it to prevent said rust?

Thanks.

Nevermind. I see the huge sticky post right above my Q about rust. Now just give me a little bit of pity about the painful first scratch.

you can use cooking oil if you want that will keep rust off, but really regular use will take care of it too. cut a steak with it presto instant rust inhibitor.

enjoy your knife

Get a dedicated striker for fire making-I use the ones at going gear. I'd use my knife in a survival situation for striking but for camp use I hate to use a knife for that purpose. Just ingrained I think. :)
