After having seen the thread about putting Blur stand-offs in a ZT 350, I was hooked. The 350 is an amazing knife, but I've always thought it needed something more. I did a preliminary search on the forum, but could not find an answer to my question. Anyway, my question is this, are the stand-offs on a red Blur red or black? I've never handled one of the red Blurs so I have no idea. I think a set of red stand-offs would look great on a 350.

All of the stand-offs are black. I wish there were colored ones!

That's what I was afraid of. Well, thanks for the quick answer. I still think that the 350 would look really cool with red stand-offs in there. Maybe I'll pick up a blur anyway and see if I can get a set of them refinished. Does anyone know if they are steel or aluminum?

I'd like to know, too, if they are aluminum. I agree that they'd look awesome in red.

I have a friend (who just joined these boards) that does anodizing, although given the size, the standoffs may be very difficult to do.

Well there is always powder coating. Have to mask the contact flats though.

What about paint? I know it's kinda cheesy, but it's not like they are high wear.

Bad juju, supposing I DID try paint... Would it be hard to remove, but retain the underlying black? In other words, how tough is the factory coating? I've painted plenty of stuff, but would be bummed if I ruined the black coating should the paint not work out.

Depends on the type of paint and how you would remove the paint. I dont want to be a negative nancy, but paint would probably fail after some use. But, rattle cans have surprised me before with their durability.

They aren't too awful hard to polish. I have seen a few people do that. I think chester was one of the people, but I don't remember. I think incaorchid also. There are different types of paint out there. If you do the right kind of prep and do it right, I believe you would be the first person I have seen paint them! If it turns out horrible you could always just buff and polish them out!

Very interesting. Maybe worst case scenario, they could be sand blasted and left with a faux stone wash finish. I've blasted many aluminum parts before and left them in the raw with good results. At least with aluminum, you could leave them raw and not worry about corrosion like you would with steel. FWIW, I shot an email to KAI early this morning inquiring about replacement stand-offs so it may be possible to get them without having to purchase a Blur. The wheels in my head are turning now. I'll keep you guys updated with KAI's answer once I receive it. Thank you all for your replies. I think we may be getting somewhere.
