Quick question about the Hinderer XM-24..

This is the first time I've spent so much on a knife and I wanted to know if my experience is a common one and easily fixable..

Brand new knife out of the box from a reputable dealer and it has a substantial rattling sound, one that seems to be coming from both ends when the knife is closed. I've tried tightening pocket clip hardware. Hell, I've tried tightening all hardware that wasn't the pivot, and the rattling persists. I have no plans to walk around shaking the blade like a maraca, but it's still a bit of a nuisance.

Is this rare? Do all XM-24s have this issue? Am I insane? Cheers folks!

I had a couple XM-18 like that. Mine all came from the stop-pin after some investigation, I stuck a tiny bit of loctite on it,make sure its nice and snug and not rotating; and no more rattles.

Yea stop pins can rattle, I will even use just a dab of heavy grease to quiet them down.

24 stop pin is different from the 18.

OP: when you close the knife and gently keep the blade pushed closed, does it rattle ?

You can get blue loctite that comes in a stick and would be easier to use then the liquid:

Just checked, neither of my XM-24s rattle at all. Only thing I can think of is the stop pin, loose fastener, or the clip is a little sprung.

Ive had rattling from xm18 before but what makes it rattled was detent rock on closed position due to the detent hole being way larger than the ball. Check yours if it has some play when closed.

It could be the ball bearings.

Send it back for a replacement. That kind of feedback, if received often enough, as the previous posts indicate could happen, might prompt the people at Hinderer to correct the qc issue.

I have three Hinderer’s and none of them rattle (2 XM18’s and 1 Project X). Your experience doesn’t sound right to me. I’d say send it to Hinderer for service.
