hello folks,

I usually resharpen my knives on a 600 grit belt when the angle get's too hard to do with stones. After that I usually touch the edge up on a buffer.. usually get's a hairpopping edge after that.

But now I have the SIFU in D-2 with black coating. It certainly outlasts ATS-34 of BG-42 by a wide margin, and has another level of edge holding and cutting I think.

You can guess my question.. can the Black-T coating stand a buffer with finest paste?
Off course, I am not gonna keep in on for hours.. just a quick wipe to do the edge.

On Coldsteel fixed blades, you can see quit good how far the buffer reaches on their black coat. But black T seems more stabile and tougher.

So... can you polish it, if yes, how much? Can you polish it off or do you just polish the coating?

greetz and thanks in advance, Bart.

Black T is a coating and like any coating it will wear off. Black T will handle some buffing but not a lot if you use a tight stitched wheel with a fine buffing compound and a light touch one can almost stay completely off of the black T and just buff the cutting edge.
