Quick question for the Hinderer owners in the house...

I've been carrying and loving my XM-24 Bowie these past few weeks, but I've noticed something I've never experienced with another framelock. It's nowhere close to make-or-break, I just want to see if it's a common thing with the Hinderer brand..

After I flick the knife open and adjust my hand to a comfortable grip, I feel the lock bar move. It's a very small movement. The lock bar slips maybe a millimeter at most further towards the opposing scale. It's as though the flick doesn't lock the knife fully in place, a little squeeze is required for that to happen.

If that description makes no sense let me know and I'll try again. This blade is a beauty and I can see myself using it for years. Just wanted to see if this is an anomaly or not for RHK. Cheers!

Although I don't own a Hinderer, I've had this happen with other frame locks.

Double check the lock bar insert, on one of my XM 18's it came loose after about one week from the factory (bought new); that could be moving a bit.

I've never experienced this with any of the six Hinderers I've owned. I have experienced it with at least one ZT knife, and while I didn't love it at that price point in practice it wasn't a functional issue.

You mentioned having carried your XM-24 for a few weeks -- are you the first owner, and how many is a few? I ask because all of my Hinderers have needed a few weeks to fully break in, somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-4 depending on the knife. Once fully broken-in, with the lockbar settled where it will stay, they've all been rock solid.

Most likely break in but wouldn't rule out making sure the lockbar insert screw isnt loose

Assuming its tri-way does it happen with all the options? I had really bad lock stick on bearings that just disappeared when switching to teflon

I can’t think of a frame lock I’ve had that this didn’t happen with. Think about it, you’re cutting something reasonably heavy duty so your grip tightens which increases the amount of the lock bar engaged with the tang of the blade thereby locking the blade open more firmly

To the questions that have been posed:

-I haven’t been able to break down the knife yet as I don’t have one of those Hinderer disassembly tools.

-I’ve owned the knife for a while but have only been carrying it for two weeks. I don’t fidget with my knives so a break-in period might be what I’m dealing with.

-It came with Teflon set up (yes it’s tri-way) which is what I wanted.

Our experiences differ which is why I wanted to ask the crowd. I own several frame locks and NONE I have behave this way. What you’re saying about it only being locked open more securely when I bear down, I know this. That’s why I’m saying it’s nowhere near a make-or-break issue. I’ve never had a lock bar move on me, and since I spent a scary sum of money on this knife, I just wanted to see if this was standard issue with the brand.

EDIT: Spelling.

Never had that happen on any of my Eklipses (or my 3” XM). I never had an XM-24 tho. Good luck, hopefully everything settles in soon. If not, send it into the Ranch.
