Do you guys wipe down the knife with mineral oil before using? I just got my GB2 and wondered if it is best to give it a good wipe down before using it to cut anything. Yes I am actually going to use this one :)

Are you concerned about the M4 rusting in use? I've never oiled mine and it hasn't rusted, but I also don't use it in the kitchen.
My suggestion is that if you want to leave it wet and still maintain a shiny finish you'll need some sort of surface treatment.

So I don't want to force the patina yet - because frankly it is a pretty sharp (see what I did there :)) looking knife all shined up, but I wanted to use it for a few weeks as is before I force the patina. So I just wanted to be sure that it did not maintenance right out the box - oil, lube etc before using. I have never done that with any of my other Spyderco's but I have not had an M4 steel to use yet (the GB1 has stayed in the safe).

You've got some mineral oil right?
Applying some won't hurt a thing, and if you clean the blade after cutting anything protein or acidic then apply another light coat of mineral oil your M4 will stay shiny as new.

No need to start another thread...;)

will that oil make the patina process harder when I do it?

In other words stop posting new threads :-D - got it :)

No. Just clean the knife really well with soap and hot water then wipe it down with alcohol thoroughly so you don't get "un-patinaed" spots and you'll be good.

And yes, you've got the patina thread subject covered well.
