Are Kodak's K123LA batteries more or less the same as Surefire's SF123A (meaning are those just different brand names for the same thing)?

The designation 123 or 123A is the *equivelent to AA, AAA, C or D.
Yes, they should work A-OK. Theres a question of battery output, and length of time said output will last, as well as battery freshness,

But that argument is the same as Energizer vs. Duracell.

So try the Kodaks, try the RadioShacks, etc...
And see if you feel they last as long, if they're as good as, OEM Surefire replacements. They should be IMO.

*naturally make sure the batteries 'look' like the same lol. I have not handled a surefire battery, but designations are a standard. Especially 123A. Like comparing Michellin 185/R14 to Dunlop 185/R14.

This may be hard to believe, but the Surefire batteries are way better than the name brand 123's. The Surefires put out a brighter light, last longer and now are WAY cheaper. Go to the Surefire website and you'll see how cheap they are now!!

For 33% ($15 vs. $20), I think I would consider SureFire direct.

And yes, the SureFire batteries are good ones. Run time in the SureFires is longer. I suspect SureFire has them beefed up to handle thermal heat better so, you don't get premature shut down.

In a camera, they are all probably the same but, in a SureFire light where heat is a problem I think SureFire brand batteries are the best right now. It is just coincidental that they are also the cheapest.

Yes, this is definitely a fact.

Compare the price of RadioShack ($2.99 ea.) or similar at Wal-Mart ($1.99 ea.) to Surefire's ($15 for 12) batteries, and it's pretty much a no brainer. One of the Dealers selling in the gadgets forum noted he has 15 for $18, which still isn't bad.

If these batteries have better mAh, or if the heat issue actually plays a factor, then i would'nt bother with anything but OEM Surefire batteries unless i was in a pinch. I mean, you're droppin' $9.00+ on three bttys at Radioshack so it's actually costing ya alot more for a lesser (aparently) battery.

I think anytime i need 123A batteries from now on, i'll be buying Surefires for the price, flashlight or otherwise.
