Quick question on warranty/sharpening

Even though I've owned various Benchmades over the years, I've never used their lifesharp program or had a warranty issue. Until now.... I recently sent in my barrage, which I've owned for about 4 years maybe? The customer service rep was friendly and professional and explained the procedure for sending it in. He added there's about a 2-3 day turn around time (assuming no unexpected issues. Package was delivered to the company yesterday (according to USPS tracking.) Sorry, I'm babbling again. My question: Should I expect a notification when the knife is shipped back, or (assuming no problems) does the company just ship it back. I'm not concerned either way, but I am curious.

Thanks.

If you sign up for "My UPS", which is free, you'll get email and/or text messages when a package addressed to you hits the system. FedEx offers a similar service. USPS offers nothing I'm aware of unless the sender specifies.

Thanks Garystl. I presume Benchmade will have a tracking number (assuming they email me notification) so I can track regardless. I am signed up with UPS, but I requested they mail it by post office. I might be the only person left who prefers the post office to ups, but I have serious delivery problems with UPS at my home...

UPS sure post is another option if they offer it. It travels ups to your local Post Office and they carry it the final trip to your mailbox. Amazon uses Sure Post a lot.

I got mine back today and had no notification. That said, week turn around, packed in a new black class box with a spare deep carry clip, and sharpened like no ones business.

Thanks, Gary. That explains how my recent Emerson delivery started with UPS and wound up delivered by USPS. The problem with UPS is I live in a small complex that has a locked security door. UPS delivers in the middle of the day (and always about the same time. They won't leave the boxes outside (understandable.) FedEx will through the box onto the balcony. The USPS guy has a key to the security door (mailboxes are in the foyer). UPS posts their notice. I know you can sign the back of the notice and authorize package to be left, but my good-for-nothing-do-gooder neighbors always take the notice off the door and put it on the mailbox. (Bastards! LOL) So I always have to call UPS and tell them I'll pick up the package at the call center which is 15 miles away. Big Hassle. Anyway, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Is that one week from time you shipped it out? That's fast! I managed to dislodge the coil spring while lubing. I didn't take the knife apart but I took the scales off one side (the screws on the other side are so stripped they could be modern art masterpiece) and loosened the pivot screw. Apparently that's enough for the coil spring to dislodge so that the blade won't lock closed without the spine safety on. (Turning the knife into an illegal "switchblade" under Illinois law.) From the youtubes it looks like it's an easy fix, but I can't get the stripped screws out. As usual, I probably should have checked the youtubes before I messed with the knife. Still, I'm sure they run into this all the time. I can't be the only idiot that continues to mess with their knives instead of just letting someone who's competent handle it!

Yes one week there and back. They will be able to fix it, but it is possible they may charge you $20 for parts and labor if it's too mangled, but I doubt they will. Keep us posted.

The scale screws are the only thing that are mangled. Blade is fine and the clip is scratched from normal wear. Even if they charge 20$ that's not bad considering the cost of buying a new knife.
