Put your consumer hat on. I'm making matching steak knife sets. Should I make individual slip sheaths or a knife roll to complete the set ? I'm interested in your preference and why. Thanks guys.

Set of knives come with a roll or box.
Plus one single sheath if the owner wants to take one on the road.

That's my cactus and I'm sticking to it :)

Can't wait to see what you come up with :D

Knife Roll for sure, at least what I'd want. :D

I see them from time to time with a matching carving knife and steel and its a classy way to gift a set as well.

Knife roll, fancy or plain. Generally, when in use they will be placed on the table with the other sliverware. The roll makes for nice compact storage when not in use.

If I was buying a set I'd like to keep them all together... in a roll (or small wooden box) otherwise inevitably one would go missing. Or as we say here in Aussie "one would go walkabout".

I'd want a roll for storage/transportation, or compact wood block to show them off or if to use regularly....or both would be cool if paying a premium in the first place. Wouldn't want a single to "go walkabout". ;)

Roll. I think including one slip sheath for a common use like the paring knife of chef would be nice touch. I don't know what's more commonly used though.

Knife roll for me too :)

I think some people even use steak knife as an EDC. I've seen a few people who carry around a Busse's elmax steak knife.

Claude, I couldn't get the link to work.

Sold the first set yesterday of two sets I was building on spec. Guy and gal comes driving up to pick up a headstall Nichole had made for em. He says I love that kitchen knife you made for us I need some matching steak knives. I said that knife was handled in mesquite wasn't it? And he syas yeah. So we walk over to the other side of the shop where I'm etching my makers mark on a batch of knives. I said like these four? And he said yep just like that, sold. Didn't even ask how much they were. So I asked him and he voted for the roll too.

My favorite fixed blade which was made as a 'bird/trout' knife could pass for a steak knife easily. I can see how folks would like the design of a nice one.

Interested to see your knife set(s) and rolls Dave!

Thanks Eagle. I'm etching my makers mark on some other knvies too!
