Quick question

I've got a real quick question I think I already know the answer to -- just looking for confirmation. Tried searching but wasn't sure what terms to use. (Forgive the simplicity or obviousness of this question.)

I recently inherited a Mnandi from my dear departed father, who stomped upon the terra for 84 years before his light burned out. Dad got me my first knife as a toddler on a trip to Switzerland (a real Swiss Army Knife with my name on it!) But I digress.

Behind the nail nick on the Mnandi there is the number "091". I assume this signifies that this was the 91st Mnandi (of its kind) that was produced. Is that correct?

(For your edification and amusement, and to make up for the possible stupidity of this question, here's my dad c. 1932):

The first 200 (I believe) Mnandis produced were numbered and the blade steel should be BG 42.

Based on others I've seen (and their sequence numbers), it was probably made in the September 2001 time frame. The inlay on yours should be zircote.

Cool! Unless I hear otherwise, mystery solved. Thanks :)

He's completely correct. Your's was most likely made in September or October of 2001. Sentimental value aside, your knife has some collector's value, especially if you have the original box and paperwork. Here's a pic of #'s 61 and 195 from the same series.

Please show us more pics of yours! Include the box and birthcard if you have it!

A couple more things. The wood inlay is Ziricote. The knife has a lifetime warranty from CRK, you can send it to them and they'll make it look almost new. I doubt you want to do that to this one, though.

Awesome. Thanks so much you guys; that was more helpful than I hoped for. (Haven't decided what to do with it yet. I always was curious about the Mnandi and I like small knives. For the time being I'll probably clean it up (or send it in) and carry it periodically to honor the man without which I wouldn't have developed an interest in such things as pocketknives.)

If you decide you don't want it, I'll offer it a loving home! :D

J/K, I doubt you'll ever want to be rid of that one. But if you ever do decide to part with it, keep it's collector's vlue in mind when you set the price. Don't give it way too cheap.

Very nice knife, and It should serve you well and be a good memory piece. Maybe someday it will go to your children.
