quick question

I dont think it does, doesnt the coating gets stripped off with use anyway ?

If shooting the knife intentionally doesn't void it, I doubt stripping it will...

OUR GUARANTEE

Busse Knife Group is proud to have the toughest warranty in the industry.

All Busse Knife Group blades are guaranteed for life against any and all unintentional MAJOR damage. Your knife will either be repaired or replaced at our discretion.

Please note that aftermarket modifications done to your knife outside of our shop that cause your knife to fail may void your warranty.

Busse Knife Group encourages extreme usage of our blades as they are without question "The Toughest Knives in the World". We have no rivals. You can use a Busse Knife Group blade as hard as you like and our warranty has you covered.

Hard to imagine the lack of coating causing the blade to fail. Jerry has also stated more than once that he has never denied a warranty claim. :)

Cool so are there ppl out there that can strip my blade or should i figure it out myself? i want a satin bt6 but i don't even have one yet because i am hoping Jerry will put one out in the up coming O2W.

There are quite a few who would strip your blade for you if you're not comfortable doing it. There are a lot of great people who can put a finish similar to Busse's Competition Finish, or blast it with media and put a finish similar to the Double Cut finish, and of course a satin finish could also be applied.

There are also a lot of great How To threads that detail the steps to remove the coating and any decarb that may be on the blade.

Good luck and make sure to post pics.

Simple answer, NO stripping the knife would not void the warranty as long as the method of stripping didn't hurt anything. A chemical stripper is not going to hurt the blade. However , let's say you decide to take a blow torch to it and burn the coating off. That, I guess, could possibly alter the temper of the steel and could cause a problem. Just use a stripping agent and you will be fine.

so you should share the info on who would do a strip... I am interested and don't have time for projects like that.

Prior to making dinner, put the knife in a disposable aluminum baking pan and cover the blade, tang and spine with citristrip or Jasco.
-When you are done with dinner, check the knife with a putty knife/scraper/razor blade, if it comes off, you are ready to scrape it off and wash it a few times.
-If it doesn't come off yet, let it sit for 30 more mins and check again.

Easy to do and fairly failsafe.

If this is still going to be tight on time, shoot me a PM.

Having a BIL sand your blade because "he thought it needed it" will void the warranty and warrant a call from Jerry telling you as such.

First time I have heard of Busse denying coverage. Your BIL must have made it really shiny.

I don't understand why that would be be not be covered. I thought the warranty covered UNINTENTIONAL damage. I'm sure the guy didn't INTENTIONALLY try to damage the blade.

Intentional damage will void your warranty.

I can understand the sentiment and reasoning, but my original statement was based off of this.
Upon rereading the letter, I see that they only replaced the handle slabs, which is basically saying that the blade warranty is, well, shot...
Wild Warranty Claims? . . . . We've Had A Few. . .

One of them was so wild, we made a full page ad out of it for Blade Magazine.

The customer was splitting bullets on his knife's edge. He was doing pretty good until he started shooting low!

We have changed the customer's name but this is the exact wording from our correspondence.

Here are close-ups of the knife handle and letter. . .

Here's a close-up of the blade. He had several good shots at the blade!

The sentiment is if Jerry covered your claim beyond this written guarantee, then you owe him extra thanks...he didn't have to do that, and went above & beyond his own warranty. But before someone decides to...I dunno...shoot a Swamp Rat knife (or was it a Busse Bushwhacker?) into several pieces, drop them into an envelope and send them in on a claim...just know that the Bossman is a nice guy, and he likes a good story....but by the wording of his written guarantee, he doesn't have to cover intentional foolishness, if you know what I mean... ;)

I really do think that Busse has the best warranty--think about it: a lot of makers cover defects and things like that, but Busse takes that to the extreme and then some. I mean most makers wouldn't even *touch* a warranty claim that involved shooting the knife...

It says a lot about a company that stands behind their products no matter what.

Kudos to Jerry and crew in Wauseon for that!

As in, they wouldn't give you a new blade just because someone made it ugly, or the knife broke and they didn't cover it due to the sanding? The first scenario makes sense. They don't have a warranty that covers ugly.

Edited.

Nevermind. I thought the story sounded familiar. Found it.
