I purchased a new in tin box Boon and Crockett 110 50th anniversary knife complete with tin box. I have left the entire package inside the the plastic clam shell. Is it better to leave it intact as it is or does the plastic clam shell really mean anything?

NIB really means in the box..If your going to resell it. But why not use it? At 50.00 it might be a long time to recoup and make any kind of profit. Enjoy it!

Why I hate clamshell packaging.... I want to fondle my "NIB" knives. I can reclose a cardboard box. I have some clamshell packaging from the 90's, they are yellowing and turning brittle. On the other hand, my knives that came in clamshelled tins are never going to be valuable, as bucksway says, I should just get over it and open them.

I have a few new unopened clamshell tins and don't really care for them for the same reason DeSotoSky stated.
I am going to be getting rid of them soon so I can pick up some knives that I can handle.
Clamshell knives are user knives and not generally what I would consider collectable.

I bought the B&C 303\309 Tin off the bay without any packaging. It made absolutely no difference to me. I would of removed it anyway.

Interesting question as I have several clam shell tins from all the years. I think some will be valuable to a point. I am thinking of selling them, 110/112 ones in the clam shell is a bit hard to send in the mail. I may look to sell a few now that I am a gold member, but felt the extra size of the clam shell package adds to the pain of selling them.....But I have never sold any knives so maybe it isn't as bad to package them still in the clam shell....

To the OP. From a collectible standpoint which it seems are considering, if you leave it in the original packaging it's stays in its original condition. It can always be removed but it can't go back once it is.

Remember the super duper clearance sales Wally had? It was almost a game to see who could find them the cheapest lol! I think the record for one of the 110's was $8.00 and for a 112 $12.00..I tried to buy 112's cheep for Christmas presents but never found any in Florida. Some of the China knives sets actually looked like a great deal but I never seen any of them at a clearance prices..

I have a 110 auto I use as EDC so I will most likely never use it. I guess I will leave it in the clam shell for now. It's just a pain in the patoot because it is so large.

I would further add...

"the extra size of the clam shell package adds to the pain of storing them....."
