I was at my local gun show today and found an older Buck in great shape (mint other than a few dark spots on the blade) The tang stamp reads Buck U.S.A. and nothing else. The sheath is a fold over type that covers the whole knife. It read 102 on the back. The spacers are burgandy, and each end has an extra spacer. Would there be any way to date this knife? I will get pics up in the morning when there is sun light.

Thanks,
John

There is alot of info concerning this on Bucks website, and the book they list there.

I have mine tucked away somewhere... :(
But with a Buck USA stamp- I belive is late 60's early 70's. (before 1972 for sure ;)
Sorry I cant be of more help, but someone will be along soon ;)
That is an easy one to date really.
Good luck!

Yes nice score! Did you get it for a fair price?
I checked the Blades guide. It says approximately 1967-1972 for mfr. dates. Joe may be able to pinpoint closer to the exact year when he gets back. (by looking at the handle spacers)
Good luck enjoy it!

Well I am not sure if it was a good buy, but the man wanted $50 for it. I offered $45 and handed him the cash. He has another knife, not a 119, but something almost as long. I cant remember the number. It had the m model number stamped on it, but it had the burgandy spacers. The blade was scratched very bad from sharpning, He wanted $50 for it also. I guess I may have paid a little much for the 102, but it has 440C steel, and I fell in love with the size. This is my first 102, but I don't think it will be the last.

Thanks for the help,
John

I edited your post to make it right ;)
If you like it, its a good price! I dont think $50.00 is to high for that era of mfr.

I think the new 420HC knives sell for that, and the one you bought looks like new! Enjoy using it!!!

Good luck with future 102's!!!!!!

Thanks for makeing me feel better about it. I was happy with the price I paid, but now I feel even better :D. I just spent about half an hour putting a razor edge on it. It was a little thich compared to the edge2k Buck does now. I took my time and did not get any scratches on the blade  (took the photos after putting my edge on). I am sure this one will see a lot of kitchen work when ever I am at someone elses house heling in the kitchen(Nobody seems to have a decent knife in the kitchen anymore). This one just feels so well balanced.

Thanks,
John
