Is there a suitable bit to use (in a drillpress) for making a bowdrill divot in a micarta handle ???

I used a standard 1/2" bit once, and it worked like a charm. I would say, go no deeper than the relief bevel of the bit tip.

Post up some pics when you get done, I would like to see it. Might have to do another one, on a project I'm starting.

I used a 5/8 bit when I drilled my antler for my bow drill divot. Hindsight, like Moose said, 1/2 inch would be fine, due to the sharpened end of the spindle, just need a depression. You can always step up a size, can't go smaller.

Pics when i get to it. I'm thinking a reg 1/2' drill bit will work like stated above. I don't have much handle thickness to play with. I think a counter-sink would be too pointy & reach too deep. :p Sorry, it is not a Becker, but i will probably do that mod to one of my beckers as well. Pics when i get to it. :D

A ball nose end mill would help keep it shallow if necessary. But you probably already have the drill bit, and can save a few dollars by using it.
