Does the RAT 3 (D2 version) have the same scales as an ESEE 3? Are they interchangeable? Love the knife but I'm not too fond of linen micarta. Am I gonna have to make my own?
Thanks

the rat d2 is made by ontario the rc3 or esee3 are made by rowen the scales won't interchange.

I've never seen handles sold seperately by Ontario for the RAT-3. One thing to keep in mind in deciding between the RAT-3 & ESEE-3, the RAT-3 is 3/8 of an inch shorter in length than the ESEE-3. In a knife of this size, it does make a difference. If you have medium to large sized hands, you will need the extra length. I recommend the ESEE-3 over the RAT-3.

it sounds like you get to make your own.
(or email marathonman about some nice exotic scales)

What is a RAT-3? Just kidding man, get the ESEE-3 for sure. Much higher quality and more user friendly due to the better handle, not to mention the warranty. You also will not be allowed to talk on here anymore with us cool guys if you get the RAT-3.:D

Guys, I already have the RAT 3, got it in a trade. Just don't own an ESEE 3 to compare it to.(and I think I own enough ESEE's to be here,LOL.)

I took a checkering file to it to try & make the linens a little more grippy. Came out ok til I put some canvas on it.
