Hey fellas, just signed up after I heard about this forum over on GlockTalk while researching knives. I spent hours yesterday late into the night reading all about RAT Cutlery.

At first, I was trying to figure out if I was going to buy a RT-3, RT-3Mil, or RT-4 for my first RAT cutter. I also knew that the Fire Kit was a must.

But then there I was, all signed up on KnivesShipFree and I've got a black RT-4, a Fire Kit, and an Izula neck kit(desert tan) in my damn shopping cart. Just before checking out, I realize the money I'm about spend on the RT-4 could order me one those new RT-5's. Ugh!

So what did I do? I ordered the Izula kit and Fire Kit and spent the next 3 hours trying to figure out what color knife/sheath combo I want in the RT-5. Still can't decide. I'm torn between the black blade/black sheath and the OD blade with OD sheath or black sheath. Anyone know where I can view all the options? I feel like I can't make a wrong choice, but it's so tough.

Anyways, just wanted to say hello. I'm the new guy with a new sickness for Rats. :)

I recommend the RC4--I think it will ALWAYS be the premier knife in the line.

...but hey...that is just me! :)

Derrick and Knives Ship Free are good. I placed my first order with them Wednesday and it arived Friday then Saturday I placed my second order Fire steel and stuff...

As to which Rats to get, what are you going to be using it for? If it's a camp knife get the RC-4 or RC-6 to go with the Izula. IMO the full flat grind on the 4 and 6 is better for camping then the partial grind on the RC-5 though I'm sure it too would do okay. My next RC knife will be the RC-6.

Thanks fellas. I'm thinkin' the 4 might be best for me. It'll be an all-around outdoor survival knife. The 4 seems like it's a good in between size.

Now, I've noticed that some RC-4's have the modified sharpened pommel. Will I be able to order it in Black, serrated edge, with sharpened pommel?

I'm not sure if the pointy pommel is an option. Didn't see it listed on RC's website but I do see it in the pictures. Maybe some one from Rat will come along and straighten us out. I've been wondering the same thing about the RC-6.

Welcome to the sickness! The RC-4 was my first RAT and is a great choice. I wouldn't stress too much over it thought because you probably end up with all of them at some point :)

If you want an EDC blade pick up the RC4. If you want a dedicted belt sheath carry knife then order the RC5.

Thanks for all the welcome and advice!

The only sharpened pommels I'm seeing on RC-4's are on the OD/Orange and Desert Tan models. If I can get one in black I will.

I think you may be seeing RC3 pictures used for the RC4 where the seller may not have a pic of that particular config of RC4.

I believe only the RC-3 comes with the modified pommel, not the 4 or 6 IIRC. My 3 has the modified pommel.

Where did you find those? The only pics I remember seeing have the regular rounded pommel .

OK guys, here is the deal. When we were first coming up with the RC4, we photochoped an RC3 and basically just stretched the blade to give us some art to work with. We mistakenly chose a regular RC3 instead of a rounded pommel version. There has never been a RC4 with the sharp pommel. Sorry for the confusion everyone.

BTW....I loved Glocktalk! I haven't been over there in a long time. Glock 19 rules.

Thanks so much for helping me out on that one. I was diggin' around for something that didn't exist...

You don't want the sharpened pommel digging into your love handles anyway.:D

True, but I did get rid of my handles recently.:D

Bigtime. I've got a 30. ;)
