When you are grinding blackwood while wearing a resperator and you can smell the wood dust it is time to change the filters right?

I'm using a 3M 6200 mask with 2135 filters

Not necessarily. Many odors are volatile esters. These are not particles, but molecules. They are like perfume ... and won't filter out. There are special filters with charcoal that will trap some vapors, but many, especially the smelly ones, will not filter very much.

Using a PAPR with an outside air source ( umbilical hose) solves the problem.

I use same mask with different configuration, like here. It uses organic filters with dust filters. With this I usually smell nothing but mask. If start smelling anything other its time to change organic filters.

Are you sure you have an airtight seal? You could also be smelling the wood because of some leaks
