The Glock Field Knife is a real value (I got mine for $30 USD). Its made in Austria out of what I presume is a tool grade carbon steel. Its not extraordinarily sharp but it can be with some work put in to it. It is a tough steel from my experience and has some "give" instead of chipping or breaking. The narrow profile of the knife makes it better suited for combat than general utility but it hasn't failed in anything I've tested. Chopping obviously isn't its strong suit but it will do the job eventually. The root saw (optional) is best for notching and such, don't expect to go through a limb with this. It has a bottle cap lifter incorporated into the guard which provides a good thumb rest and allows one to index which way the blade is facing when it's sheathed. I sharpened the false edge on the tip, and it does pierce slightly better but it was good for that before. The sheath is one piece of polymer and has an ingenious system of locking which is essentially a plastic tab that comes over the guard (good shot here: http://www.old-smithy.info/bayonets/fullsize/austria/Austria Glock fighting knife.jpg)

Comparison:

I got my brother one for x-Mas one year and he called me two months later talking about he had beat the crap out of the knife and it came back for more. I think he was doing some type of home improvement.

The Glock knife can do anything but cut..:D Ok, you can get it to cut, but it takes a little effort. But this knife is one tough bastard, especially when you look at the price. Besides, it's a great throwing knife.

I bought one about 15 years ago, give or take, for $20. US. It came dull, but after some work took on a very keen edge. I like it. The glock telescoping e-tool I have is neat also. Both imo are very good field tools. Glock has a reputation of building extemely good shit for less money. GLOCK PERFECTION?

Try a convex edge on on your glock knife it makes a big difference. I use a HF 1x30 to keep mine sharp and ready for a beating, Makes sharpening it real easy.

Glock Field Knife after some "hard use" (mostly batoning); no chipping of the blade and I've gotten it very sharp although the finish has worn:

looks like a good beater knife!!!!!!!
hows it do compared to the lmf and kbar???

It isn't as much of a chopper as the Kabar but I found that it's about even with the LMF IMO because of its extra blade length. Also, It'll baton better than the LMF. I think it's better than the LMF for combat and maybe better than the Kabar (lighter, quicker, penetrates better than the wider blade of the Kabar but then again the sawback can't help with that), of course YMMV. The Kabar has the best sheath of the three, good mounting options but not bulky, quick draw but not too tight. They're really in seperate categories though. Price alone (LMF at about $75, Kabar at $70, and Glock at $30) will dictate that. In the price range, I think it's tops. You can dig one of these up at gunshow or whatnot for $25 which is about the same as a CS GI Tanto with shipping. Compared to the GI Tanto, it has a much better sheath, handle, and what I find to be a more useful blade design.

Im going to disagree here. I have found the LMF II superior in all aspects to Glock M78 (cutting performance and ergos and basically overall usability in mil environment). I'll admit I have not used either for a long time due to my current assignment but I test major portion of my knives out thoroughly.

The Glock knives are great for the price and are indeed very good for many but not near all mil mos.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course:) I simply feel that I'd rather have a longer, narrower, and lighter knife in hand when in a CQB situation than a short, wide, and heavy knife.

imho, glock is a small arms manufacturer.
both the knife and e-tool must have been regarded important enough to be part of the master corporate plan to market field capability enhancement products for tactical use in paramilitary environments.
all very weapons grade stuff and more importantly competitively priced,
idiot proof and thus very easily replaced.
