Based on my good friends and good customers pushing me into it, I put a ZT0562CF in my pocket about 6 weeks ago. I have constantly heard good things, but when this knife came in it just did not jump out as something I needed in my pocket.

This knife, and honestly a lot of Hinderer designs, just never personally appealed to me that much. I have always been sure that the ZT0562CF is great, but the design just was not my style. So putting one of these in my pocket and really carrying it has been a bit of a chore. In all honesty I kept rotating something else in to my pocket and would make an excuse about needing a heavier duty knife. Anyone who knows me knows I love my Sebenza 25, Bad Monkey, 630, 620 and 301! A few weeks ago I forced myself to start carrying this knife as my main EDC Monday through Friday. No more excuses, just carry the damn thing and use it.

The knife really started to grow on me. Adjusting my hands to retrieve the deep pocket carry became easy. Flipping the knife open quick became simple. The design of the knife grew on me as well. I started really using it and cutting up everything I had a need to cut. I started testing it to see how it was holding an edge after a week, 10 days, 2 weeks and now 3 weeks of good use. Cutting boxes (brutal on knives), cutting tape, para cord, practicing some feather sticks and cutting up my dinner (on a wood cutting board). I found that after a day of good use the knife was still very sharp, and after a few minutes on a strop, it was shaving hair sharp. Heck I have tested it so much that my right arm is about bare again! To say it simple, I was impressed.

The other thing that grew on me was how comfortable the handle actually is. I have pretty good size hands which is why I like bigger knives. I really thought the thinner profile of the knife would cause a lot more hot spots, but truthfully it was much less than that of other knives I like to carry.

To finish up this mini review. I am stoked I listened to some of my friend/customers and pushed myself to carry this knife. It will now be the predominant knife in my EDC rotation. Sometimes you just have to put your personal feelings aside about a design or finish and listen when so many people are putting out positive reviews and post about a knife. This was hard for me but will definitely be a little easier to do the next time something comes out that is not right up my alley. Sometimes you have to listen when those you trust in the knife world have incredible things to say about a knife! Nicely done as always Zero Tolerance, sorry I did not do this earlier!

Love mine, Whitty!!! You got me into using an 801.... not I can't get it out of my pocket. ZT does an amazing job on some amazing knives!

My experience is just the opposite. I couldn't wait to get this knife. Loved it when I first got it.

But after using it for a few weeks, I found the blade geometry wasn't all that good. All my knives have high-end steels, so I didn't notice much from that quarter. Finally, I just tired of it and no longer carry it.

I've noticed that it hasn't lived up to its buzz in the long months between its announcement and actually availability.

Curious is yours a 562CF? What is the serial number on it?

It is an 0562CF. It was an early one with the M390 steel, which is pretty close to the new steel that ZT uses. The serial No. is 1767.

The knife is extremely well made. But the blade geometry is too heavy for my own taste. The edge shoulders are 0.037 inches -- too thick for a slicer with M390 steel.

I was probably underwhelmed by the flipping action, too. While good, it's not nearly as good as my ZT0560.

[EDIT] I'd just add that my EDC is the Benchmade Rukus -- full sized with a blade that runs north of 4 inches. Reprofiled to 30 degrees inclusive (which makes the edge shoulders wider), the edge shoulders are 0.027 inches, much thinner than the smaller ZT. The blade thickness is a touch thinner than that of the 0562, but they are close. When a heavy-duty knife -- too big for most people -- is a better slicer than a smaller knife touted as a slicer, there is something wrong with the geometry of the smaller knife.

Good information. I was curious if it was M390 but did not want to say anything. I have a ZT0620CF in M390 and one in the CTS204P. While I know they are similar, I swear I can get the CTS 204P sharper and it holds an edge better. Thanks for the feedback. If we have an extra ZT0562CF for pass around sometime, I would like to put you on it. I would be curious if you would notice a difference in the steels?
