Just wondering if anyone knew how well S30V handles lateral stresses?I am not of the "use your knife as a prybar camp",but I was curious as to how this stainless steel compared with other SS's that I know to be much more brittle than say some carbon steels are. Thanks in advanve mi amigo's:)

I've been using an S30V Native for quite some time, and using it fairly hard. Noticed some edge chipping visible to the naked eye on the plainedged part of the blade. Serrations are still in good shape however, no teeth chipped off. I've read that Spyderco heat treats this stuff "in house" after purchasing it from Crucible. Maybe they got the first generation a mite brittle? I've not had these issues from my newer Military.

Both are awesome cutters.

Henry,
Have you posted your chipping problem on the Spyderco Forum(s)? I'm sure Sal and the others would like to know about this. This would greatly help improve the product and would add to the knowledge depository on S30V, which is relatively new. I'm sure any knife with a thin edge and acute angles would chip under hard use, but edge chipping on S30V on small folders is not common. I believe there were some problems with CPM440V used by Spyderco previously, although I found CPM440V on my Gunting to be absolutely wonderful - edgeholding and the ability to take a razor finish. Dont' know about toughness tho'.

Since Chris Reeve uses S30v for his Green Beret knife it can't be too bad.
