I received the Spyderco Perrin Street Bowie about two weeks ago in a trade with BF member Rhesus Feces. I had played with the Perrin briefly at a knife shop but, had never really been able to closely examine it. Since receiving the knife, it has become one of my all time favorites.
Couple of observations/comments:
The 5 inch VG-10 blade is a great cutter! Slices through everything with ease! The blade is not too thick, not too thin.
The point is extremely sharp, the sharpest one I've EVER seen.
The factory edge was able to cut free standing hair off my arm. Great Spyderco edge.
The knife is very, very light. Feels like it's not there.
The handle is very secure and ergonomic. I didn't know if I would like the choil. Actually, it really aids in retaining the knife and securing a good grip.
The sheath is pretty nice. Not as good as a custom sheath but still very good. Works well IWB for draw point. (You can add Para-Cord for this) Comes with a tech lock. Carries well.
The knife is very easy to manipulate. This is mainly due to the excellent balance of the knife. The Perrin is a great fighter in this respect.
The Perrin is not only good for SD but also for utility. The flat grind is great. Would make an excellent general outdoor blade.
Not too expensive. You can get one from the internet for about $90 including shipping.
Overall the Perrin is a great knife. Sharp, light, great steel, secure grip, useful shape and inexpensive. I would highly recommend it for general EDC, hunting, camping or SD. The Perrin has made it to the top of my list very quick. Great knife.
