which is stronger, ats-55, or gin-1? i recently bought a civilian, which has a blade made from gin-1 steel, and was curious. thank you.

I am not sure as they are actually pretty similar. I am not sure which would be stronger. For A Civvilian, it won't matter. The knife is not gtoing to rely on brute strength. I hope you enjoy it and never need it for it's intended use.

indeed, in a civillian it won't matter as the blade tip is too weak for real use. it is made for self defence, no more then that.

But if you let me guess, Gin-1 will bend a few degrees more then ATS-55, all things being equal.

Also greatly dependant on HT off course.

greetz and take care, bart.

chr, There are different kinds of strength. If you are talking impact or bending, my guess would be that Gin 1 is a bit "stronger" in tensile or compression my guess would be ATS 55 is slightly stronger. Heat treatment plays a important role in this and could easily reverse this.

... but keep in mind that it will void your knife's warranty to use it for cutting anything other than people, so the strength of the blade is really a moot point. Except that it will allow you to keep a keen edge.
