I have been carrying a inexpensive($40.00) Colt cobra liner locker. This has to be the fastest opening liner locker i have ever handled.Without any flicking of the wrist, the thumb stud opens this knife as quick as a spring assist knife and as quick as a "get into trouble" law restricting auto. Lockup is rock solid and the knife,440stainless, is quite sharp. United cultery seems to have made a real decent knife here. anyone have one of these real fast opening folders?

I'd be less concerned with the speed of opening than I would the security of that lock. And if it's 440C, it's a good deal. If it's 440A (more likely), it's overpriced.

Not to be a big jerk or anything, but speed of opening is one of the last things I look for in a folder.

Occasionally, during the discussions about the merits of various steels, I remember the Blade article of a year or so ago. Usually, it makes me laugh to remember it. If I recall, the people asked to rate the steels considered in the article ranged from manufacturers to knife sellers, and I don't remember what all.

What I clearly do remember is that BG-42 and 440A steels tied for first. The ratings basis included machinability, stainLESSness, edge keeping, toughness, strength, and a few other factors. Maybe it only proves that I'm a perverse son of a gun, but it delighted me to see a steel so often put down, do so well when it came to actual knife performance.

Ivan, while I don't expect Colt knives to ever be highly praised here on the forums, I doubt you overpaid at $40 either. It is obvious that you like your knife, and are very pleased with its operation. And, you dealt with the importance of the lock working or not. Enjoy your Colt.

Yep, this IS the best of the Colt knives i have seen yet.Blade is marked solingen Germany. People can be snobs about knife quality.
