OK, guys, now, I know this has no Emerson content in it, but some of you have done this, so who better to ask, right?

Basically, I just got a CRKT Ryan 7 in the mail from 1SKS yesterday, and the f**king blade is ALREADY showing rust. I want the bead blast GONE. I like the damn knife, and it's a steal for the price, but I will NOT tolerate this kinda crap. I mean one DAY? C'mon!

But, like I said in the post in the General Forum, at least my EMERSONS never pulled this s**t! Take THAT you Benchmade/CRKT QC hounds! Hey... I had Emerson content after all. Go figure!

Bead Blasting opens the steel to immediate rusting and I experienced that immediately on my BM CQC-7 when I had one. And on the large CRK&T KFF as well. Buy a Dremel and do a search on this forum for "Dremel." You will come up with the important info you need where people have done this.

The exception to Bead Blasting, as Kit Carson told me on the phone, is Ceramic Bead Blasting which peens the finish instead of opening it up for the elements.

Thanks, Don! A dremel it is... I knew I needed an excuse to get one.

In the meantime, I picked up some marine tuf-cloth, and have doused the blade with it. Hopefully that'll head things off at the pass.

Chris

I'm with you buddy. I have the blade out of the Ryan, but have not had a free minute to start working on it. Should be interesting.

I'm going to try the "Sand Paper and Elbow Greese" method at first. If that doesn't work out, Dremel it is.

John,

The Dremel is safer, I was going the sandpaper route on a CRK&T Large KFF and was like, "Screw this." Very close to the edge, one screw up and you take the tip of a fanger off.

John:

Better listen to Rearic. In your line of work I'd hate to see you lose a "fanger". Especially if it's your "trigger" fanger.

Don,

Let's not push him too much, then he will have to prove us both wrong, then his one hand will resemble a Yakuza Member.

Yesterday, I noticed a little bit of rust staring to form on a bead blasted CQC7B that I have. I took my dremel tool with a polishing/buffing wheel and some Brasso and did the whole blade. The rust is gone, and the blade looks like new with the original finish. Now where's my Tuff Cloth.......

Flitz and some elbow grease also does a pretty good job. I tried it on my CRKT KFF before I sold it. It came out pretty nicely.
Another interesting thing, my SIG Sauer 229 two tone had some problems with minor rust spots. I polished it with Flitz and have had no problems since. It shore is purdy now
