here are some images i shot this weekend at the annual Matthew Quigley Buffalo Rifle match held every year over father's day weekend in Forsyth MT. This match is designed for single shot rifles chambered in traditional black powder cartridges .375 caliber or larger. any safe powder charge is allowed includeing smokeless powder. any cast bullet gas checks okay. 8 shots are fired at 6 different targets from 350 yards to 780 yards. this year we had 629 competitors. this match is larger than the national championships. I hope you enjoy them.

First up is ABS Mastersmith Shane Taylor and his son Ki.

and just to show you that anyone can enjoy the shooting sports. this fella is confined to a wheel chair. his brother in law made the contraption that holds his rifle for him so that he could compete in the match.

Great post subject and photo's.

I watched the film on tv only a few months ago and enjoyed it very much, not having seen it since it was screened in the early 1990's.

The style of the guns and atmosphere the photo's convey are most appealing and is something I wish I was able to do ...the pic of the guy in the wheelchair is inspirational. :D

I have a friend in Idaho who goes to Quigley. He is also in a wheel chair. Last year he didn't finish last. He came in 6th from the bottom.:p He shoots a .38-55 and had some problems with the wind. This year, he is shooting a heavier bullet. We'll see if he does any better.

Single shots are fantastic rifles .I learned to shoot with a falling block 22 as a kid. That one is still with me.An 1885 Browning and repro rolling block in 45-70 have been added .Those I mention because some think that only Sharps are the real thing !

The Quigley is cool, I have been there twice and will be there next year for sure. The people are great, the shooting is fantastic (if you don't mind 25-30 MPH gusts from the side , changing 45 degrees every few minutes). A good time is had by all. I was really bummed all weekend that I was not there (wife had scheduled a vacation for next week, and work didn't like the idea of two straight weeks). Glad you a good time. I will never win the match, but I seem to end up right about the middle of the pack. I am sitting here trying to figure out the tool the guy is showing on his table in the sixth picture down, just can't figure it out, looks like it has a brass container on it for something, but is flush with the board.

Looks like a powder measure to me. Of some sort.
