"Quik-Safe" breakfront security sheath system

I thought I'd show this one. Its for a Scagel-style large camp knife I made recently. The sheath is a "hanger" type with a swivelled belt loop which goes on and off the belt with snaps. The belt loop which you can see in pic #3 can take a 2inch belt or a 3inch belt, by removing a set screw.

The sheath is built so there is a hollow that the guard sits in. The snapped flap holds it in place and prevent withdrawal of the knife from behind, or when the flap is in place. Even with the flap unsnapped, you need to rock the blade forward by 1/4inch to draw it. There is a small shelf built into the flap (where my thumb is in Pic #3) which allows you to leverage the knife forwards easily.

I adapted this idea from security holster designs, so its not actually my own. Any comments appreciated. Thanks for looking. Jason.

You put a lot of thought into that one Jason, and it shows. That's a very worthy companion to that awesome camp knife. :D

Sweet knife! I love the way used the turn down of the stag in the handle. It looks like it would have great ergonomics.

Very cool sheath -- the knife is outstanding too as usual.

Jason... you just don't quit, do you!!!

Fisrt off - I LOVE THE KNIFE!!!!! I may not be a stag fan, but that's the first stag/leather combo handle in the 'Scagel' style that works for me... And the blade... well, that works for me, too!!! LOL!!! :D

But... the sheath...

I like it!!! But the only change I'd make would be to include two hangers instead of just one... but that's just me! ;)

Great package!

Thanks for the nice words, guys. Honestly, I could have gotten away with a straightforward pouch sheath, but I wanted to do something special for this customer. He has ordered enough knives from me to keep me eating smoked salmon and oysters for lunch for a while. :D Just kidding, but I am very grateful to him for his support.

I wanted a sheath design that still had a "passive" safety system in place even after you had released the snapped cover / strap. Its like making a scabbard sheath with a security strap and havingthe body of the sheath still tight enough to stop the blade from slipping out of the sheath after you've popped the strap. There are a lot of pistol holsters like this design. (By comparison, this is in fact a relatively primitive security design...).

BTW - the spacers aren't leather - they are alternating canvas and linen Micarta, as a modern touch. ;) :p

Thanks again. Jason.
