Here is a dagger that I just finished up for a customer. He specified the materials and over all length while leaving the damascus patterns and shapes to me.

The size requirments were that it be at least 13" oal with a minimium 5" handle. It came in at 14 3/8" overall with a 5 3/8" handle. The handle material was to be preban elephant ivory which I purchased from Warthers with all of the proper certifications. I also purchased a set of scales that will be on a bowie I am making for the PKA show. The handle is and oval shape with a palm swell all the way around the middle of the handle.

I forged some rainfall damascus for the guard and buttcap and used some high layer "w" pattern for the ferrule. For the blade I forged a standard random billet of 190 layers and then when I cut and restacked the billet I forged it on edge like I was gioing to make a "w" pattern billet using some exrtra distortion on the sides every so often. I was real happy with the way the pattern came out. The ridge line on the blade is very sharp and clear in person, it kind of got lost in the damascus patttern in the photo.
Let me know your opinoins of this one.

Craig, I like it, nice looking damascus fit and finish. This one calls for a great looking sheath as well.
The only thing that worries me a bit (but it can be the perspective in the photos) is the width of the guard. It looks a bit too big for the rest of the knife. What are the dimensions?

I love it Craig, and my wife does too:thumbup: I must say it looks even better in person. I'm glad i'm going to get to enjoy it for a few days before I turn it over to my wife's boss:D

I think this is one that I would have to see in person. To me the guard is not in proportion to the rest of the knife. Other than that, I like it very much.

I would like to thank everyone for the feedback that I got both on the forums, via PM's and e-mail. It has been really insightful and helpfull. It is much appreciated!

Just for the record, this dagger was delivered to it's owner today and he was very happy with it and in fact said that it exceeded his expectations. The owner (not me) supplied Craig with a rough sketch of what he wanted and I believe Craig did a fabulous job of capturing what the owner wanted, even if his specifications and sense of proportions weren't appealing to the masses.

A happy owner makes the large guard just right! Good looking dagger, Craig.
