Qustion about that Starmate

Yeah, i have seen some pictures of the starmate that are a little different form eachother. One pic shows a shield on the handle and three screws along the spine of the handle, while the other does not have a shield and only has two screws. Is one newer than the other? Thanks.

If the picture that you're referring to is the one I'm thinking of on a review in one of the recent magazines, then I believe that the knife with no shield and two screws is either an early prototype, or a custom made by Bob Terzuola himself.

All the production Starmates I've seen (uh, which I guess isn't that many) have the extra screw and the shield.

I can confirm Carl's inputs above. I have both a serrated AND a plain-edge Starmate. Both has the "shields" and three screws on the clip.

However, what's really weird is that the finishing of the two differ. The serrated version has a MUCH coarser finish than the plain-edge model. I also had to exchange the serrated version for another at the agent, because it had linerlock failure from time to time (BRAND NEW!!). Both the knives are numbered, so one would expect that at THIS stage of the production, these kinds of quality problems are sorted out...

Anyway, I LOVE both the models, with just a LITTLE preference for the plain-edge model. They won't replace my Militaries, though!!
