R.A.M or Knockout?

Hello all,
Title says it all - should I prefer one over the other, and why?
I know the two models are very different (lock, A/O, etc) but both appeal to me
I'd be using the knife as a light to medium duty EDC
I'm looking for input on slicing ability, lockup, carry and comfort of use

thank you,

-gergely

(technically the Knockout is slightly outside of my legal carry range (which is 80 mm blade length, vs 83 on the Knockout) but I would feel comfortable carrying it so that is not a deal breaker)

If I had my choice, R.A.M. all day long. I do like the knockout, I just love the ram. It slices awesomely, has one of the best locks out there in my opinion, and flips so smooth and sounds so awesome while doing it (like a 1911 slide racking). It fits the hand o so comfortably, and it has it's own unique look to the handle and the blade shape.

I guess I feel like the knockout is too close to my ZT 0350/ 0360 and 0550.

thanks a lot :)

I am biased towards the RAM but you never know until you've tried them both :)

(obviously I should get them both but can't afford to right now LOL)

Both are real gems, the decider for me would be how they carry. If you need to be discrete the knockout gets my vote, if you like easier access/retrieval of the knife-> RAM.
Only negative I can say about either of them is this; The locking button on the RAM looses traction after some use as the plastic wears out. (Not a big problem unless you flipp it all day long like me). Then there's the Knouckout, lacks some traction i slippery conditions e.g mud/oil.

I dont own a Ram so i know very little about it....but i do have a knockout that i edc for along time and loved it. Some have said they have had problems with the knockout handle being slick when wet but not me. i find the handle makes it easy to get in and out of ur pockets faster and smoother

No contest - Kershaw RAM

There is no comparison in my opinion. There is no other sub $85 knife that operates as smoothly like the RAM out there production-wise. (That I have found in two years of looking).

Side comment - The knockout handle on the clip-side - when worn daily - shows the rubbing rather blatantly. The RAM's G10 overlay helps to hide the normal wear of carrying it daily.

I have had mine for a few years and it is one of two that sees the most use. I did not have any trouble with the button looseing traction. The only thing I seen was if you had large digits the button can be harder to manipulate. I remedied this by removing the g10 and lightly sanding it down. I also used a round file and made a gardual transition on both sides of the scale so there was more button to bite. I have also filed down the button so it has 4 peaks so there is almost no way i wont grip it.

I have both, and they're both excellent knives, but I like the RAM a lot better. You couldn't go wrong with either, but I'd lean towards the RAM.

Hope this helps.

R.A.M. not that I'm biased

Great photo! Interesting that the handle styling around the pivot screw changed on the later versions of the Kershaw RAM vs. the original - great collection - I am missing the red versions.

Wish that G&G Hawk would team up with Kershaw again in the near future - the 1910 R.A.M. and the Echelon were the two unique offerings from Kershaw that no one else had anything else like for that price-point.
