R. Flaherty Experiences and Models?

I've seen a few R. Flaherty folders popping up in some picture threads as well a couple on the exchange. I was hooked by their clean appearance and the fact I had never heard of them before, so I did a quick search. From what I gathered, they're stout, utilitarian, fully custom folders (all I have seen so far, at least) in A2 (using Peter's HT) with some seriously clean design going on. What really piqued my interest was that these knives were supposedly being sold for only $125, direct from a custom maker!

I've seen a couple of reviews that cited only minor F&F issues with the knives, and otherwise praised them. So are these sub-$200 custom folders too good to be true? If Mr. Flaherty is still in business, or at least on these forums, I would be very interested in hearing it straight from the source about his methods, philosophy, and models available. Otherwise, anyone who can shed some light on this phenomenon, please do!

I have been meaning to answer this thread for a while. I own one Flaherty folder and hope to own more. I am not sure if Mr. Flaherty is still producing knives. I have not seen him in the folders for sale section in several months. I purchased mine from another bladeforum member. When Mr. Flaherty was selling them they were less than $200, and would sell in minutes or less. On the secondary market the folders can exceed $200. I paid more than $200 for mine, to me it was worth more than $200.

I really like my folder. It is very well built, the only think I have had to do as far as maintenance it tighten the pivot and oil/wipe down the blade to keep it from rusting. The construction is very good and stout.

I have really one seen the one model, but the blade length has varies from 3" to 4-1/4".

That's about all I have to say, they are nice folders that are well built and worth owning in my opinion.
