Eighties teen idol Corey Haim died Wednesday morning of an apparent drug overdose, according to Los Angeles police.

Police sources said Haim's mother was with him at his Oakwood apartment and called 911 after finding him unresponsive, according to TMZ.com.

The sources said Haim's death appeared to be accidental.

He was pronounced dead at Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank.

The Canadian-born actor starred the 1987 vampire flick "The Lost Boys," but was probably best known for his roles with fellow actor Corey Feldman.

He was 38.

Haim, who has been in and out of rehab, also starred in "The Two Coreys," a reality show with Feldman that aired in 2007 and 2008.

The show was cancelled during its second season. Feldman reportedly refused to continuing working with Haim until he sought help for his drug addiction.

Haim, in a 2007 interview with The Sun newspaper, talked about his struggle with drugs, specifically prescription pain killers.

"I started on the downers which were a hell of a lot better than the uppers because I was a nervous wreck. But one led to two, two led to four, four led to eight, until at the end it was about 85 a day - the doctors could not believe I was taking that much," he said.

"And that was just the Valium - I'm not talking about the other pills I went through."

Haim's official website was last updated on Jan. 18 and promotes his upcoming film, a thriller titled "American Sunset."

Haim began his career in 1984 as a child actor, but his big break came in 1987 with "The Lost Boys," which also starred Feldman and Kiefer Sutherland.

Several memorial pages popped up on Facebook after the news of his death broke.

"I'm sad that Corey was never able to defeat his demons," wrote fan Amanada Sepanik.

"You will forever be missed but you are in a better place now. My heart goes out to your friends and family."

My wife loved watching that show "The Two Coreys" and I kept telling her we will be reading about his death soon.

she kept saying "no, he will get help and we'll see a big return to the movies again."

Too bad, he wasn't a bad person just very lost.
