Turned on the TV this morning and was saddened to see that Ron Santo has died. For those of you still living in your attic, Ron Santo was the loved third baseman and later announcer for the Chicago Cubs. He was a fragile diabetic from the beginnings of his pro career in a time where much less was known about the disease, yet he perservered and flourished when the odds were against him. He put up stellar Hall of Fame numbers, yet has so far been denied his rightful place in the Hall. It's a damn shame that he will probably get in now that he is dead. He was a heck of an inspirational person in many ways. You will be missed Mr. Santo.

I'm sad to hear of his death. I didn't realize that he wasn't in the hof which is a travesty as he had a great career.

Im no cub fan but i listend to ron call a lot of games and he was very entertaining when i heard the news this morning i was very saddend felt the same way when harry carey died . Nothin like listening to a day game at work and when the cubs would screw up ron would go into one of his tyraids or when he would drift off in the middle of a game and start talking abought the color of lake michagan good stuff . R.I.P Ron next summer just aint gonna be the same .

Hell of a third basemen. I remember watching the "Cubbies" here in Ohio, the guy never gave up on anything he thought he could do. All of these great ball players are passing away, & it seems like only yesterday, people of my generation were out in their yards with their favorite player's number scratched on old t-shirts with a magic marker immulating their every move . . .:)
R.I.P. Mr. Santo, thank you for the memories.
Be safe.
