R. J. Martin Karambit

Never fear. Although I dont yet have one of these, I have several other knives from R.J., and I can assure you of the quality. If a knife says R.J. Martin on it, it's a good one.

Danbo's right...you can't go wrong with one of his knives!and calling his knives sharp,is an understatement! i had the pleasure of handling the Karambit,in its prototype stage in his shop...very sweet blade, and ergonomics...you wont be dissapointed:)

I use his kerambit for training, and sometimes I carry it too. There are no kerambits sharper than his. Very slim, very low profile, it's almost perfect. The thing that kinda worries me is the blade thickness. It's very thin, and while it's scary sharp, I'm worried that it would break in a SD situation. And also, the handle is considered small. I have small hands so it's perfect for me. Not for those who have big hands.

I have handled one...it is extremely fast (in terms of spinning) and unbelievably sharp! As stated above, if it says R.J....I will agree that it is on the small side.

beluga,

Have you also handled one of the "new," smaller Strider Karambits?

If so, how does sizing compare to that model?

Thanks !

Yes, I had the opportunity to play with the new model at the last NY show. The Strider model provides better grip, it's more comfortable to hold, but I always find that the blade on the Strider kerambits to be too straight for my taste. I like more curvy kerambits.

For the overall size, the new Strider kerambit is bit larger compared to RJ's, the handle is thicker making it less concealable.

When I bought RJ's, I was not looking for a combat kerambit. I was looking for something that I can carry everyday in term of size and concealability.

beluga,

Thanks for your great assessment. I'm already a fan of RJ's works (it took me a coupla months to pry the Avenger from my front right pocket...it just didn't want to leave), so thios pretty much seals the case for me -- I'm definitely on the prowl for one of these now.

Thanks again for the help.
