Looks like my tax refund is going to be larger than expected!! I'm thinking about the purchase of one of these RJ Martin Devastators. I've done some searches and seems like there have been NO complaints about this particular knife as it has gotten nothing but glowing reports! I like the style and I think I owe it to myself to purchase one. So my question revolves around those folks who have one and what you think about it.

Alright. I purchased one of these and should have it midweek of this coming week. I'll post up an initial impression of it. Been doing more research on it and it seems like this is quite a stout folder. One thing I've noted between the ones I've seen pics of is that the one I ordered has no top thumb disc to use to open, it is a flipper only. Anyone know if the thumb disc can still be installed? Probably will not need it from what I've read about the action, but I do like to have a tighter pivot than a lot folks and wonder if I'll actually need that thumb disc to open it. Guess I'll find out next week!

HI Cuttter,

The key to a flipper is not a tight pivot (defeats the purpose of a flipper). It is a detent that holds the knife a little longer inside the frame. You should really like the knife. Oh and be careful, those who do not give RJ's knives their proper respect seem to wear a lot of bandaids or stitches as the case may be.

One who has been "bitten" by a couple of RJ's folders.

Congrats on getting a Devastator!! I hear RJ makes an extremely sharp knife!!

I myself am aching for a Havoc!!

Thanks for the info WWG. I'll definately be careful and respect that Martin Edge! That Havoc is also a sweet looking knife TKC, especially in the dress version!

Got my Martin Devastator yesterday afternoon. Got to say that it is everything I expected, and probably more. It has excellent locking and the sharpness of the blade is something else. One thing I noticed was that this knife weighs more than what is stated on RJ's site; listed is 5.4 ounces, and it weighed 7.4 ounces on my scale. Fact is that I would rather it have the extra two ounces as it gives this knife a super solid feel. I like the grip and it feels very comfortable in my hand. The torched finish it has causes the titanium to have a dark, almost black look with some blue tint in places. It really looks good. The carbon fiber overlays are unlike any cf I've seen. There are designs in the cf that actually look like silver paint if the light is right. I know that sorta sounds odd but I'm not able to explain it any other way. Also, this really looks good. The flipper action is slick, and I'm talking real slick! It is not much more than a thought and a slight push with my forefinger and the blade glides open into lockup. I did take the liberty of tightening the pivot a little bit. It now takes a little bit more to flip it but not a problem.

From my first impressions I think I definately have a winning knife and one I can be sure will do anything I might throw at it!

I've never heard or seen a bid thing about RJ Martin knives, and that says volumes. You made an excellent choice.

WOW! You mean you received 10 knives in one day?? Man that would definately give me sensory overload!

Thanks for the vote of confidence Keith, I think I made a good choice!

Hey Roger: Buy what you LIKE! ;)

Your damn photo is making me WANT it! :p

Les, the bowies started with "just one" also. ;)

I like RJ's stuff quite a bit and blame Dan Farr for it. I got to use a big fixed blade of RJ's (don't ask me the model) for some rope cutting and Dan also carries one of RJ's folders as his shop knife. Getting the opportunity to use those knives and see them used was a pretty compelling sales pitch.

I just bought a Devistator today. I can't wait to try it out, and hope it lives up the the glowing reviews here.

I received my Devistator yesterday, but have not had a chance to really check it out until now. Inital impressions are outstanding. The knife is so nice, I don't want to use it and risk scuffing it up!

RJ sends me superglue and band aids with every purchase, right WWG?

congrats on the score!

Hi Ron,

RJ has cut himself, I have cut myself, a knife that RJ sharpened for my Nephew cut him.

They are vicious if not respected.
