Very nice. That looks like a knife that caould handle just about anything in the field you could throw at it.

Thanks guys.

Name: Hurricane Survival Knife , so called because it was designed by our very own Myakka after the big Huricanes in FL last year and was baptised on clearing fallen trees.

Blade .25 inch D2, tapered tang OA Blade length 167mm Cutting Edge 150 mm @ 60 Rc

Handle : Exhibition Grade Desert Ironwood, Copper pins and lanyard tube

Sheath: Jamie Briggs

Maker : Roger Linger

Price: In the mid $300's IIRC (Which included the sheath)

I don't think Roger wants to grind any more blades this size in D2 though :D

Temper,
Beautiful knife and great design :D I received my knife from Roger afew weeks after my home and town was devastated by a hurricane last year. I got to "break-in" the new knife chopping up several oak trees on my property destroyed and downed by the 200+ MPH winds. After I talked with Roger about the knife preformance and great edge holding we deceided to call it the "Hurricane Blade"

"I don't think Roger wants to grind any more blades this size in D2 though"

Temper as far as Roger grinding another D2, Roger just maybe grinding D2 as we speak ;) one never knows ;)

I was here for all 4 hurricanes last year - lost power for extended periods during 2 of them (7 days the 1st time & 5 the 2nd time). I carried a 6" fixed blade the whole time...

One thing I learned about having no power for days on end is that you always need a flashlight on you - even during the day. So I attached a small maglight sheath to my knife sheath & my little light rides 'piggyback' on my EDC knife.

Another thing I learned is that you will get very wet & dirty during the cleanup stage. So I think a kydex sheath might be a good idea.

So, my ideal 'hurricane knife' would include a kydex sheath with a pouch to hold a small flashlight. I'd say a leatherman tool too but the combined weight makes for an uncomfortable carry package unless you get a really small, light multi-tool...

That is a much nicer knife than the one I carried though!!!

"The efforts of a team is always greater than the sum of its individuals."

Good suggestion on the enhanced sheath .

RL

P.S., The hell with big D2.

Thats simply NASTY ;)
What Roger....1/4" D2 a monster :D
I know 1/4" anything is tough to work with but bad A@@. Nice job!

Thanks guys, I had a customer that has turned out to be a decent pal come over to the house the other day and he was torn between this and a RL Bushcraft. He couldnt afford either of them but later emailed me to say how much he liked that style and ordered a Helle instead. He couldn't understand why people would go for 'military' style knives over something like a Pukko considering the Scandinavian blades proven style.

I have this on the desk next to me and everynow and then either pick it up or just smell the leather sheath, it has that really nice quality smell you get from Horse Riding tac :D Hey, its better than sniffing glue ;)

Thanks for that Simon. I like that knife alot too. It is one of the knives I look forward to making. Well, I like making all them but the Hurricane SCK is up there. Jamie makes a great sheath.
