they look pretty good, how did it go with the forging was it your first forging? if so did you get to notice the difference in your hammer control from one to the other? forging is fun you can make use of scrap steel like that to make cool little shop knives.

Great looking spikes. I made quite a few a few years back. They sold quite well at a tourist railway. I forged them down a bit all the way to the head. Buy reducing the thickness of the square at the head you will get a longer blade I made longer thiner blades and called them letter openers. The forgiging great fun and practice. I also got into the habit of leaving the blades with a finish straight ot of the fire after the final shape and flatten, wire wheel on the bench grinder, put a thin polished cutting edge.
The advantage is you only polish the thin edge not the whole blade.
It has a rustic or medi evil look to the blade. They seemed to sell just as quick. I was more interested in the forging than the polishing at that time. Just an option.

Keep up the good work. See if you can hunt up a tourist railway customer. I suppied them for about 18 months until I got tired of making them.

That was because I started making animal heads on rod. Less effort and better sale price.

Pretty cool. I just did my first two spike knives last week. I'd just never tried 'em but, they sure are fun. I really like that top one, great job.

I Have a set of step by step drawing for a rams head. The bulls head is easier and you will be able to see how its done just by looking at the photo once you have seen the steps of the ram.

Send me an email and I will send pics of finished and steps.
Anyone else who wants a set feel free.

I don't know how to put the pics on a site or hostsite.

reg_ellery@optusnet.com.au don't get caught there is an _ between the reg and the ellery.

They are good fun. Sometime the first ones may be a bit wonky but have another go. My brother used to make the with larger size rod or square bar to make fire poker sets. I have seen a nice buffello made aswell.

HammerFall, not my first, I tried to forge some rebar, but the blades cracked. Mr. Gib gave me the spikes and said "try these".

Reg. Thanks,,, Ideas!!!!

J.Neilson,, Thanks,, they are suprisingly easy, and fun to make!!

Thanks for the directions Reg. That was really great.

Dan you may want these, this would make a good tutorial.

I have sent the pic to greymaker and J neilson. If anyone else has sent a mail I did not get it.
I sometimes have missed mail due to the _ in my address.

You guys that got the picks feel free to give them or show them to who ever is interested.

reg I'll post the pictures and what you sent me
as soon as I can do it, I'd have more time to work if I'd
stay away from this forum
