Does R W Clark have a new website? The old one, in his sig, won't load and I'm looking for more info on this small custom:

>>Mini M.A.U. Neck / Keychain Knife

New for 2002. This is the Mini Aikuchi. This is a Keychain / Neck knife piece. Made from O1 high carbon steel. It is zone hardened and features a very bold straight Hamon (temper line). With over 40 ordered in the first three days that it was offered. This little gem is proving to be a strong contender for most popular. It is offered in both traditional or the popular WharneCliffe blades.

O1 high carbon, Rc60 at cutting edge
4 1/2" Overall length with a 1 3/4" flat ground blade. Blade is ground from 1/8" stock.
Handle feature traditional silk wrapping and is available in several colors.
Comes standard with a mirror finish and is etched to reveal hamon.
Comes standard with a Kydex multi carry sheath system and Mil-Spec beaded chain.

Any help? Thanks!

does anyone have his email address? I tried his phone but got answering machine saying it was not functional as of Feb 1, 2005.

Did however just get this knife from an Ebay purchase and had hoped to learn a bit more about it from the maker.

What I do know is that the knife is made from CPM S30V and has resin coated silk cord over walnut burl handle. The sheath is Ostrich over Kydex.

Very nice knife which I thoroughly enjoy handling. It is really coincidental that the thread began much the way I had planned to create a new thread. Sure wonder what has happened to RW.

thanks very much. I have sent an email. will see if it goes thru. BTW--anyone know why my sig file shows when I do a preview but it does not show when posting? I do have show sig check marked.

Murray, your 'Gold Membership' ran out. You've been downgraded. :(

If you're looking for one, BladeArt.com has some in stock.

I have one of the wharncliffe blade mini's. It's a very handy little neck knife, with one of the best (IMHO) kydex sheaths I've ever seen -- the blade "snaps" in and out, with no danger of ever coming loose accidentally. I'd have to say that R.W. has the heat treat nailed, because the O1 sharpens easily, gets wicked sharp, and holds the edge fairly well. No problems with rust, either.

About the only shortcoming I can think of is the shortness of the handle (about 2 1/2 fingers and my hands aren't that big), which places your fingers almost on top of that wicked sharp edge.

RW makes awesome knives. In another thread he was explaining his general absence from the custom knife world over the last few months as having major big orders from customers for large numbers of custom knives, so he's been pretty busy. He has a few things for sale over on the Maker's for sale forum, too.

A few years ago, Ron was making a ton of these fine little gents utility fixed blades and sending them off to eBay. Tapered tang, spacers, filework, brass bolster, nice sheath. I bought a few...

Along with my fully-serrated Spyderco folder, I use this utility knife EVERY day. It's battle worn and has been abused nicely. :) I spent a day with RJ Martin last week, and he resharpened it for me--my request. Damn thing bit me a couple of times since!

I don't see Ron around here too much, but I appreciate his work daily. I've never used a custom knife more than his.

Coop, you still have those? Man that seems like a whole life time ago that I was selling on Ebay. And if anyone is wondering, you can all blame Coop for my being on Bladeforums. He was the one who turned me on to internet knife newsgroups.

As to the website.

I was foolish enough to let it my domain expire last year. Before I could get it back it was bought by a dealer. I was able to buy it back but have since decided not to put my site back up for now. Here is why. Customs are not my main focus currently. As a rule I have not accepted any orders for the past 18months (although I just broke that rule with my new CF2 folder but only for 10 knives). I have cut my show schedule from 8 shows a year back to only 3 shows. I am putting 95% of my time and energy into subcontracting for other makers, doing aftermarket manual to auto conversions and custom sheath work. The only times any one can normally buy my stuff now is at shows or the few rare times I might list something up here at BF.C. So to me having a site up is like saying "Hey look at all the cool stuff I am doing and you can't have any of it". Just not my style.

I am around BF.C alot. I now moderate the Simonich Knives forum and try to hang out in the makers area as much as time allows. I have changed my answering machine so that the message no longer has the Feb message on it (that was left over from SHOT show).

Murray, I got your e-mail and will be tracking down the original sells info for that knife per your request. Off hand I believe that it sold at the 2003 Blade Show in Atlanta but I need to check my records to be sure.

Thanks
Ron

Good to hear, Ron. Always enjoy stopping by your table and visting with you and your Dad (pretty cool dude in his own right!). Hope your planning on going this year and bringing lots of goodies.

BTW, Ron's cord wraps and Kydex is the equal to anyone's!

Thanks for the info Ron. will look forward to your email. Right now I'm really having fun handling this nice knife. It is a shape and style I have been looking for, for sometime.

Coop--is Gold the pay for membership? I have never actually had a payfor but my sig file always showed up in the past so maybe BF has change policy.
