R2 with STR modified tip

I got my R2 a couple weeks ago and loved everything about it except the reinforced tip. Since this knife is such a great precision cutter, and since I don't use my knives as a prybar, I decided to have STR flatten out the tip so I could get a nice needle like tip put on it. It turned out great. STR did a great job, you can't even tell that any work was done on the knife, as the finish matches up perfectly with the rest of the knife. The tip pierces effortlessly now, and it is extremely sharp. I just love this knife, and it will be hard to get this thing out of my pocket now. This knife is thin, light, and an amazing cutter, and the needle tip just puts it over the top. Thanks STR.

This is my first attempt at posting pictures, I hope they come out ok. They aren't great pictures, but you can see the great work STR did.

Looks like the pics came out great to me. Glad you like it. I must admit that the R2 went unnoticed by me until you sent it to me. Now I want one too. They are sweet sweet perfect size knives.

Nice job all around. I have the R2, consider it a wonderful EDC, I must confess the reinforced tip does not bother me a bit, but I can appreciate your wanting a tip mod done, as well as STR's skills. My Caly Jr. handles all my pointy tip needs just fine. Good luck with the R2, it is a sweet knife indeed.:)

I am one of the few R-2 fans. I really like this knife and think it is one of the most underrated Spydercos out there.

The blunted tip is one of the few things that I don't like about the knife. I had a R-1 SE and I noticed it had the same tip. I see why they put it on the R-2, it is to make it look like the original R-1. IMHO this was a mistake. The R-1 needed the reinforced tip because of the blade cut outs. The R-2 has a solid blade and doesn't require the reinforced tip.

I may do this to one of my R-2s or have it done. It can only make the knife better and more useful. It is too bad Spyderco didn't veer off course a little more and make them with the pointy tip from the start. I know they were trying to make a good sequel the R-1 but they ended up making a compleatly different knife anyway. I owned both and the R-1 is cool but the R-2 is a MUCH better knife if you intend on actually using it.

I agree, the tip was really the only thing I would change about the knife. It is hard to believe people didn't flock to this knife, espescially how much you hear people drooling over flat grinds. Once you pick up the knife and start to use it is when you notice how good of a design it is.

I'm carrying my R2 today. I agree it's a classic. Seems to fall into the same catagory as the large Calypso.
