I recently grabbed up an R3 Knife in my continuing quest to own all of the "R" series knives. It is a very small blade, double edged and mine has a very nice antler handle on it. My first inclination was to use it as a wood working carving type of knife, and I may well still use it for this yet. However, today there was a grand opening of our new Best Buy here in Terre Haute and they were darn near giving away many Blu-ray titles. As a movie buff, this was a hard thing for me to pass up so I basically shot most of my discretionary funds there. All this sort of sets up how I discovered what a great knife the R3 is for a person like myself...

You see, I hate the little RFID tags and the anti-theft tags they stick into the cases and for some compulsive reason, must remove all of them before I am able to watch the movie. I have tried many different knives for this task. Some would take care of the cellophane wrap fine but then were not as good removing the plastic anti-theft tag. Others were crap for scraping off the RFID tags... but the R3 was fantastic at all three!

And now a short photo review of the process to show off how well the R3 works...

First off, here is the un-touched package and the R3 waiting to do the work.
I picked this Blu-ray because I know it has both the RFID and anti theft tags.

The edge on this knife is nice and sharp and easy to keep that way so the cellophane melts away...

First I peel of the RFID tag and look how well the R3 does this!

there is always some gunge left behind to scrape off and the R3 takes quick care of it.

Next, off comes the anti-theft thingie...

I am most pleased with this knife and I believe I may even need another one. As you can see from the state of my "work area" it is easy for me to mis-place things. It is always good for me to have a spare when I find something to be this useful.

Nice review! The task is little odd for a knife but hey, to each his own! BTW, you have a pretty interesting workplace. Soup, prescription medicine, metal polish, what appears to be a Remington Derringer...but I'm one to talk ;)

Actually, it is a North American Arms Mini Revolver in there and some test strips for my glucose meter, I am diabetic. I also smoke, which I should quit and that is the tobacco I favor there in the blue can. I guess I never thought about how telling those pictures really were... :o

Gee, and here I thought it was condoms next to the shooter and the flitz. Really! Shows how long since I've been in the game!

Wow, I'm sorry warty. Call me the gauche-man I guess :o
Note to self, make sure all incriminating objects in the background are removed before taking pictures...

It's all good. I don't care. I don't do anything against the law so I am not worried someone will see something they shouldn't... I already know my place is a mess. I would have been hard pressed to take pix anywhere n my house where you wouldn't have seen a gun or some other knives or some extra bits and pieces of whatever laying around... I live alone and have no kids so I just have crap everywhere. :D

lol at least you have work space, Warty. I have a very nice work bench that my father in law built for me when my wife and I bought our house 5+ years ago.

It's now completely covered in "projects" (i.e. JUNK).

I like the R-3 a lot. I bought one for my co-worker before I went on a long vacation where he was going to have to run the shop by himself. I made him one of my typical ugly (yet form fitting) custom leather sheathes, and he still EDCs it to this day. Very nice:)

I also carry the R-6 from time to time. Actually, mine needs a clean up and sharpening big time. I used it to cut a bunch of patio furniture material away from some scrap aluminum. Man, that stuff will dull a knife in a hurry
