I was missing my SAR 3's that went to a family member so I picked up a Rodent 3 off the exchange to see if it could be a close enough but cheaper sr101 replacement. When it showed up in the mail yesterday I found the grip is much shorter than the SAR3 handle. Since I have XXL hands, don't like 3 finger grips and the hump was in the wrong spot for my digits, action was required to fix my problem. Out comes the variable speed belt sander, a bucket of water to keep temps cool to the touch for barehanded work and the dremel for touchup of hard to reach spots. It is much improved and very comfortable, though the rear finger grooves may still go away for a real SAR3 handle feel combined with a HACK choil.

Here is my R3 hack mod as it is for now in my wife's hand.

Here it is by itself.

These are shots in my paws, which the handle now actually fits with the extra choil added. :)

I love it  Really nice looking Hack, makes the R3 a lot more appealing to me

Now, what'd you go and do that for? I was perfectly happy with mine. The little boy in me has kicked in, cause now I want one like you got. Perfect English, of course.
Looks great! Thanks for sharing.

Turned out great! Thankfully the 311 just fits my hand. Love those small SR 101 blades.

Love my R3 as is. But I gotta say that I've always preferred being able to bring my index finger close the the blade like you've done. Good one!!!

Yes, it is much better feeling than the original. I am still leaning towards removing the finger grooves at the back for a more saR3 HACK feel.

The scrappy is a nice little blade, but the handle does leave something to be desired for large hands.
